About Fern
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Fern
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE as an owner surrender with her 5 siblings. Mum originated in the NT, rescued by her kind owners as a heavily pregnant dog, and now her pups need loving homes.
BREED: Mixed breed (Mum is of the smaller variety, but definitely a Northern special)
************************************************************************
ASSETS: Cuddly, talkative and playful! Fern is the smallest girl in the litter but can definitely stand up for herself.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Fern loves to play wrestle with her siblings, enjoys playing with soft squeaky toys and will happily steal them from her siblings! She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down for a snooze (ideally in your lap) before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Fern adores cuddle time. She’s also really fast, one minute she’ll be in front of you and the next she’ll be speeding around somewhere!
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Fern will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Expect accidents while she’s settling into her new home and routine! She’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can socialise with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner.
ESSENTIALS for Fern:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence – essential. Please give your puppy direction and fair boundaries to engender balance in her growth
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Fern will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium energy at times as an adult dog. She could live with another dog with similar energy to her.
Fern could also live with dog-savvy gentle children over 12 years of age, who will interact with her but also know when to give her space. We encourage new owners with children to work with a crate to allow the pup space and 'down' time. These puppies have not been raised with children, so owners need to be very aware of boundaries both for kids and pups - being slightly smaller dogs please remember that they are not toys and will require respectful handling and gentle interactions.
If Fern sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
