About Winter & Baxter
Introducing Winter & Baxter!
Baxter & Winter are Staffy x siblings born 10th june 2025.
These two gorgeous kids were brought into us after being found roaming. Sadly, it turns out his owner has been incredibly ill in hospital and was unable to be reached. They were staying with family who decided they "didn't feed dogs" and they rarely got fed while with them. Once the owner was able to speak, he advised he still has at least 2 months & at least one surgery left before he can come home & he decided to surrender them for rehoming.
Since being at the facility these two cuties have been a ball of fun, affection & puppy mayhem. They're both incredibly sweet dogs who are very much bonded & we would love to find them a home where they can stay together. They're both smoochers, not only with each other but with humans as well. While they can get excited & jump up for a cuddle, they can also be very gentle when needed.
We will do our absolute best to keep these gorgeous kids together, however we are open to separating them for the right families.
Baxter tested quite well with other dogs, he seemed happy to say hello but wasn't overly playful. He seemed more interested in trying to find Winter. Baxter will need to have another dog at home, as he becomes incredibly stressed when he's alone. If you have a friendly dog at home, we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Winter didn't test great with other dogs, which was surprising given how beautiful she is with Baxter. If Winter is rehomed without Baxter she will need to be the only dog at home.
Both Baxter & Winter tested OK with cats. They both had hackles up but quickly lowered their heads & left the room. We believe they could be suitable to live with cats if given a very slow & controlled introduction to them.
Baxter was mostly unfazed by our resident rooster. He was quite excited to see/sniff him at first, then happily walked away. Given his excitement we believe he could be suitable to live with caged pocket pets.
Unfortunately Winter does show signs of prey drive, so she will need to be in a home with no small animals.
Both Winter & Baxter have shown no signs of food aggression towards each other or humans, while at the facility.
When these two are housed together, they're so quiet you forget they're there. They will sleep with each other or entertain & play with each other. Baxter doesn't cope when they are separated. He will bark, howl and try to climb back to her. While she is less stressed with the separation, if she can hear him she will cry out to him as well.
Baxter's adoption fee is $650 and includes his desexing & lifetime registration.
Winter adoption fee is $650 and includes her desexing & lifetime registration.

They are also regularly treated for flea and worms and are up to date with their vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
