Meet Sheriff Max, the charming Maremma Sheepdog who promises to fill your life with joy and adventure. At just 12 months old, he is a young dog with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This gorgeous boy is a creature of habit, thriving on routine and consistency, which makes him both reliable and predictably endearing. Despite his impressive name, Sheriff Max hasn't started any sheep guarding duties yet, so he's perfectly suited as a lovable pet or a project for someone prepared to invest time in training.

Sheriff Max loves leisurely-paced walks, where he can enjoy the world around him. Give him a couple of walks each day, and he's content to relax and chill out afterward. His favorite pastimes include getting brushed and lounging around in water; although he's not keen on swimming, he enjoys a good splash and cool-down session. Sheriff Max gets along well with older children and adults alike, though he might be a bit much for very small children or older adults. He would be excellent in a family with kids who know their way around larger dogs.

If you are after a guard dog or alarm bell, Sherrif Max will let you know when unwanted or even wanted guests are arriving and happily connect with them. For the local wildlife he will be sure to tell you that there are plenty around as currently he is living in a rural area.

He also will be best suited to a larger dog as he loves to play and even though is currently in care with smaller dogs, we feel a larger dog to match his energy will suit best.

Being a true Maremma, he does exhibit some resource guarding tendencies around food and toys, preferring to have his meals separately to avoid any disputes with other dogs. His behavior is naturally protective rather than aggressive, so in a home where boundaries and patience are respected, he's a very manageable pup. Sheriff Max sometimes feels the urge to chase cats, though this behavior has lessened with time, and when it comes to other dogs, he thrives best with ones that match his sturdy stature.

Sheriff Max is fully toilet-trained and sticks to his routines, which include sleeping soundly through the night in a safe space. When exploring on-leash, he generally follows your lead, but if his adventurous spirit kicks in, he might momentarily let his stubborn side show. Thankfully, with a bit of gentle encouragement and cues like "Let's go," he's happy to comply. While he's not the best traveler, preferring to stay grounded rather than take a car ride, he more than compensates with his loyalty and playful company.
