About Sprout
Please note: reactive dog seeking experienced and kind owner
Sprout is an incredibly smart, affectionate little guy who thrives in the home environment. He learns new tricks quickly, is crate and toilet trained and absolutely loves cuddles- especially tucking his head under your neck for comfort.
Sprout is a reactive dog and will need an experienced, patient owner committed to positive reinforcement training only. He has several fears that his foster carers have worked hard to support, and he will continue to need understanding and guidance in this area. Sprout is currently on anti-anxiety medication to help him cope with a world he finds overwhelming.
Sprout struggles with new people but is relatively dog friendly when introductions are controlled. A calm, understanding household is essential, as Sprout has a big bark and can be easily overwhelmed.
It is essential that Sprout goes to a home with another confident, neutral dog. Ideally an older, peaceful companion who moves calmly through life. (Confident does not mean playful or social, but emotionally steady.)
This youngster is not suited to apartment living and will need a quiet home with a secure yard. He enjoys quiet bush walks, but dog parks are completely off limits. The outside world can be scary for Sprout, so he thrives best with an enriching home life focused on mental and physical stimulation at home rather than frequent outings.
Despite his fears, Sprout forms deep bonds with his chosen humans and loves to be close to them at all times. He is extremely athletic and surprisingly strong for his size, and would benefit from activities such as backyard agility to keep his body and mind engaged.
Sprout is not suitable for homes with cats.
Sprout's foster carers are in no rush to place him and are committed to supporting a slow, thoughtful transition, including multiple visits to your home. For this reason, adopters must be located between the Sutherland Shire and the Inner West
