Messi is a sweet, bashful boy who needs to begin his new adventure in a small launch room so he can settle at his own pace, as large open spaces can easily overwhelm him. Once he feels safe, he warms up quickly and happily leans in for chin scratches, showing the gentle, affectionate personality beneath his timid exterior. He will thrive in a calm, quiet home with patient people who understand that confidence takes time and are willing to let him come out of his shell on his own terms. To help him feel secure, his new home should offer plenty of safe spaces such as scratching posts, cat trees, cardboard boxes, igloos, and access to high and low perches like shelves or dressers. Messi would be best suited to a family with teens or older children who can read basic cat body language and know when to give him space. He originally arrived with his feline friend Dumpling, and while they would enjoy being reunited if someone is looking for a pair, he may also adapt well to a new cat companion if introduced gradually with opportunities for both cats to retreat as needed. With a gentle approach and understanding environment, Messi will blossom into a loving and loyal companion.
