About Rasem - 10 Month Old Kelpie
If you are looking for a "shadow" who will stick by your side through thick and thin, meet our handsome 10-month-old Kelpie. Rasem is a loyal boy who is at an age where the world is one big, exciting puzzle, and he is looking for a partner to help him put the pieces together!
True to his breed, he is incredibly smart and a total toy enthusiast. He is currently working hard on his "pro-athlete" skills and is still learning that the best part of fetch is actually bringing the ball back to you! His curiosity is endless, and he loves to explore every nook and cranny of his environment. In addition to toys, he’s also a big fan of playing with water, taking every chance he can to run through the stream of sprinklers or the hose.
Rasem hasn't had much exposure to the outside world during his 10 months, so his reactions to people and other dogs when he's out and about can be a little bit much. This is something he is working on, and with time and patience will be able to work through. He will require a confident and strong handler to help him overcome his fears and reactions in public spaces.
While he can be nervous on a lead or when meeting strangers, his foster home has shown us that he has a heart of gold under all that puppy bravado. He has previously lived with a cat and was a perfect gentleman, so he could potentially share his home with a feline friend again. When it comes to other dogs, he’s a bit shy at first, but once he’s had a slow, patient introduction and realizes he’s safe, he settles in beautifully. He isn’t being unfriendly, he’s just a sensitive boy who needs a bit of time and a slow introduction to feel comfortable with new furry friends.
He is a vocal lad who likes to say bye as you leave, and while he may bark occasionally when you’re out, he settles quickly and takes naps. Because he is still learning his manners and can be a bit sensitive to his surroundings, he is best suited to a home with children aged 10 and older who can respect his boundaries.
He has been desexed and has a clean bill of health, ready to find a forever home where he can continue to grow into the incredible dog we know he is.
His Perfect Family:
- An Active Lifestyle: Someone who can provide the mental and physical stimulation a young Kelpie craves.
- Training Commitment: Owners who are prepared to nurture him as he learns to navigate public spaces.
- A Secure Yard: Space to practice his fetch skills and burn off that puppy energy.
- Understanding & Patience: A family that understands he is a "work in progress" and is willing to be his advocate in public spaces.
- Quiet Home Base: Ideally a home with children 10+ where he can feel relaxed and secure.
Can you offer this curious and loyal boy the structure and love he needs to truly shine?
