Hi, I’m Sofia!
I came into rescue with my litter and our mum when our breeder wasn’t able to keep caring for us anymore. Thanks to Off The Chain, I’ve had the chance to grow up safe and supported, and now I’m ready to find a home of my own.
I’m a sweet, gentle girl with a softer, more sensitive nature. I can take a little time to feel comfortable in new situations, but once I do, I’m incredibly affectionate and loyal. I’m great with both kids and adults, have lovely manners, and don’t jump up on people. I'd be a fantastic family pet.
I’ve already made a great start on my training and I’m a clever girl who enjoys learning. I can sit, wait patiently for my food, and shake hands. I’m currently working on crate training and building confidence when left alone, especially in loud or unfamiliar environments. Busy, high-noise settings (like construction or machinery) can overwhelm me, so I’ll need a home that can continue guiding me calmly and consistently.
I would best suit a family or person with the time and commitment to continue my training, take me for walks, and help keep my growing brain and body active. I’m still young and learning, so having appropriate exercise, routine, and enrichment will be really important for me as I mature. I’m very content hanging around outside while my people are nearby doing jobs or relaxing, and I also have a natural guarding instinct, so I make a great little alert dog. At night, I sleep beautifully in my crate inside, but I’m also happy sleeping outside if my new family prefers a dog that’s comfortable doing both.
I’m a mixed breed – my mum is a purebred Maremma and my dad is the neighbour’s Arab x, so I’ll grow into a big girl. I’ll need secure fencing, ongoing guidance, and a home committed to setting me up properly for life. I would prefer to live with another dog for company, but if I am to be a single dog, I will settle into it just please set me up for success by maintaining regular socialisation with other friendly dogs.
All my vet work is completed and I am more than ready to find my forever family. I can’t wait to shake hands with my happy ever after ❤️🐾 please come to meet me soon!
Medical notes
Sofia is currently on 20mg fluoxetine daily to help her ease through the transitions between foster carer/s and adopting home. Fluoxetine is a very affordable and safe medication commonly prescribed for dogs with Sofia's history and temperament.
The intention is Sofia be adopted while medicated with Zactin, with this treatment continuing by the adopter until she has settled in and their vet agrees she can be weaned off.
It is important that this medication not be stopped abruptly- adopter should be prepared to discuss with their preferred veterinarian and wean her safely when appropriate.
