Meet Sonny – Sweet, Sensitive Little Companion

Sonny is a Jack Russell Terrier with a gentle heart who is searching for a calm, understanding home where he can truly feel safe. Once he settles in, Sonny shows just how affectionate and loyal he can be—he enjoys being near his people, quietly keeping an eye on what everyone is doing and relaxing on the lounge (even if he has a definite preference for “his side”!)

Sonny would do best in a quieter household, ideally with an older couple or a family with respectful teenagers who understand dog boundaries. Fast movements, especially around his face, can make him nervous, so a home without younger children is important.

He is crate-trained, house-trained and knows his basic commands—though, as with many Jack Russells, he occasionally practices what we like to call “selective obedience” when he is distracted by something that sparks his interest.

Sonny enjoys daily sniff walks and is generally good on lead, although he may give a small alert bark when something catches his attention. At home, he takes his role as household security very seriously and will happily let everyone know when visitors arrive, but will stop barking as soon as the visitor says hello to him.

Sonny would love to be the only dog in the home, where he can soak up attention at his own pace. He may also suit a home with a calm, polite small female dog willing to give him time to warm up, as other dogs can initially make him anxious. He's not keen on male dogs, although he is somewhat grudgingly living with several in his foster home.

He enjoys toys and often entertains himself by inventing his own little games, and while he’s not quite a fetch enthusiast (yet), his playful personality is blossoming more each day.

Secure fencing is essential, as Sonny, being a typical Jack Russell, can occasionally tap into his impressive “Houdini” skills. However, he's not an adventurer by nature; he much prefers to be with his humans, whether that's pottering around the yard or supervising the housework indoors.

Loud noises, storms and wet feet are not his favourite things.

Sonny is a very sweet boy who simply needs a patient family willing to give him time to feel safe. In the right home, he will become a devoted little companion who quietly follows you through daily life, always happy just to be nearby.
