About Dartanyan
đâ⏠Meet Dartanyanđ
Dartanyan is a seven-year-old Domestic Medium Hair who was adopted from another council as a tiny kitten a long time ago. He has spent his entire life; seven years with one family as their only pet, so coming into Councilâs Animal Shelter several weeks ago has been a huge and confusing change for him. His family is moving and won't be taking him along.
At first, Dartanyan struggled with the transition. He was scared, highly stressed, and made his feelings very clear (sometimes in a rather obnoxious way). Thankfully, his extensive history with local veterinary clinics have given shelter staff valuable insight into his personality and needs. With patience and understanding, staff have been able to work through those early âbrattyâ behaviours.
Now that heâs settled in, Dartanyanâs true personality is shining through. He is a very social cat who enjoys wandering around the shelter, chatting away and confidently bossing staff around. Heâs a medium-haired boy who enjoys regular brushing. Although his previous owner preferred him in a lion cut, this really isnât something he needs going forward. Simple weekly brushing together with normal cat grooming will keep him comfortable and looking great.
Dartanyan is extremely food-motivated, especially when it comes to wet food. This little vice has proven very useful, as heâs currently learning to walk on a lead and is enjoying supervised outdoor adventures.
â¤ď¸ Why is Dartanyan a special adoption situation?
Dartanyanâs clinic history describes him as âspicy,â which simply means he can become a little irate in stressful situations. This has included the occasional âtoilet accidentâ when placed in unfamiliar environments. These behaviours are not uncommon in cats who have been abruptly uprooted from the only life theyâve known for many years.
With patience, understanding, and good cat management, cats like Dartanyan can work through this difficult transition. Shelter staff have been very patient with him, using a combination of calming techniques, stress-relief sprays, treats, and giving him space and ignoring his bad moods rather than escalating them.
As Dartanyan becomes more comfortable, these behaviours continue to improve, and his affectionate, confident personality is shining through.
đľ The rule of 3 applies for Dartanyan.
3 days to decompress
3 weeks to learn the new household routines
3 months to start to feel at home.
Dartanyan would love a calm, understanding home where he can be the centre of attention once again and settle back into family life. His ideal home would be as an only pet without confusion, slow paced and routine.
