About Duncan
Meet Duncan
Duncan is a striking, gentle soul with soulful eyes, a curly tail, and a calm, easygoing nature that makes him a joy to live with. Despite his mixed-breed heritage (Dutch Shepherd and a touch of Husky charm), he is surprisingly low-energy and wonderfully low-maintenance. At home, Duncan is relaxed, settled, and an all-around good boy who thrives in a peaceful, predictable environment.
Life With Duncan
Duncan is an absolute pleasure in the home. He is toilet trained, has no separation anxiety, and settles beautifully into daily routines. He feels confident and secure on his regular walking route, where he moves calmly and comfortably. In unfamiliar or busy environments, he can become hyper-vigilant and prefers to avoid unpredictable settings — Duncan is much happier in familiar places with familiar faces.
He is currently in foster care with a qualified dog trainer and has received extensive training and support. His recall is reliable, and he gets along very well with other dogs. While Duncan was initially unsure of strangers, he has made steady and encouraging progress and is now comfortable with visitors in the home. When out and about, he remains more cautious when approached by unfamiliar people and appreciates space and respectful handling.
Personality & Quirks
Duncan often chooses car rides over long walks and absolutely loves sticking his head out the window, calmly watching the world go by. True to his Husky side, he can be a little vocal at times — occasionally singing along to the vacuum or chatting to his dog friends.
He entertains himself happily with toys, enjoys a good game of tug, and is continuing to build confidence around water. When he’s not playing, you’ll likely find him curled up into a neat little ball on the couch, or starting his mornings sitting quietly on the back deck, gazing out over the lake and “meditating” on life from the comfort of home.
Ideal Home
Duncan would be very happy living with another medium to large dog — or several. He loves canine company and would thrive with a built-in dog friend to relax and play with at home. He suits most home environments, particularly ones with familiar faces rather than a rotating cast of visitors.
Duncan is not a social-calendar kind of dog. Busy cafés, markets, and crowded outings are not his idea of fun. He’s much more of a “backyard with my mates” kind of guy than a “brunch with strangers” type. A home with space to stretch out, a secure yard, and a calm, slightly anti-social vibe would suit him perfectly.
Energy Level
Duncan is very laid-back and low energy. He’s content with a short walk every other day or swapping walks for a longer car ride instead. Despite his relaxed nature, he can absolutely keep up when another dog initiates play and enjoys enrichment activities and interactive games.
Most of the time, Duncan is happiest doing very little — lounging, observing, and enjoying the quiet life.
Children
Duncan has not been tested with children, and a home with children is not recommended.
Other Dogs & Cats
Duncan has not been tested with cats. He does have a tendency to chase small dogs and is best suited to living with medium to large dogs. In the home, he is social, relaxed, and plays nicely with other dogs, making him a great candidate for a multi-dog household.
When out on walks, Duncan can be vocal and may struggle to disengage when seeing other dogs. He will benefit from a firm but fair handler who can provide clear guidance and consistency. With the right handling, he settles well and continues to make progress.
** Ongoing training support will be provided for Duncan’s adopters **
Duncan has spent a significant amount of time in the pound before entering foster care, and the progress he’s made since then has been remarkable. He is a gentle, loyal companion who will thrive with someone who values calm routines, canine companionship, and a quiet life shared with a very special dog 🐾
