About Holly (On Trial)
Holly went on trial in a new home on 8/8/11. Please consider our other dogs at www. Dogrescuenewcastle. Com. Au. . . Holly is a 7 year old purebred beagle; a lovely dog who enjoys nothing more than to sniff around as beagles do. She's a very sweet dog with such a gentle nature. Who could resist those big beagle ears and those big brown eyes? holly loves to be a part of the family and loves to be inside with people but is also happy to explore outdoors for part of the day. . . She is fine with other dogs but doesn't really play with them. She is more people focused. She'd be good as an only dog or with another dog who is old enough not to want to hassle her. Holly is fine around cats. She also has not shown any interest in my horses or chooks on the other side of the fence whilst she has been here. . . Holly was surrendered by a young couple who are expecting a baby and feel they can no longer care for a dog. Beagles usually live to around 14 so holly still has half her life ahead of her. . . She doesn't have any problems with sleeping in a crate/kennel. Holly hasn't been interested in toys since being here but would rather explore the yard with her nose in typical beagle fashion. . . Holly understands basic commands. She is house trained, but like any dog will need a little reminder when going to a new home. I wouldn't allow her off leash in an unfenced area as her nose can lead her astray, such as across roads. She doesn't seem to be a barker; she hasn't really barked much at anything since being here. She can be a little worried with someone suddenly touching her feet. She is past the silly stage and doesn't jump all over people. . . Holly is happy to have kids around as long as they understand how to treat a dog (i. E to be gentle and to leave a dog alone while sleeping or eating etc). But she isn't interested in playing with children so they would probably lose interest in her pretty quickly. So she's not suitable for a family with young children, but fine if there are children visitors such as grandchildren. Being an older dog, holly would also fit right into a home with a retired person/couple who is home the majority of the day and would love a companion to go on a daily walk, or be with in the garden or to share the lounge. Holly is waiting for her "forever home" to live out the second half of her life. . . *** please see more photos of holly at
