Meet Nutmeg - the gentlest soul with the sweetest little heart.
When Nutmeg first came into foster care, she was extremely anxious and on multiple medications. With stability, routine, and a calm foster home, she has made wonderful progress and is now maintained on two anxiety medications. Nutmeg is also on a special diet to manage her IBD and has seasonal allergies, which are well managed with medication and regular bathing and grooming. Her new owner will need to be confident administering medications orally and committed to keeping her treatment routine consistent.
Because of her ongoing medical needs, Nutmeg will be on the more costly side to care for. She will need an adopter who understands this and is committed to maintaining her health and wellbeing long term. She also needs an owner who is home often and able to provide the consistency and reassurance she thrives on.
Nutmeg loves going for walks and walks beautifully on a lead. She is gradually gaining confidence when meeting calm dogs in a controlled, on-lead environment and is now happy to engage in a gentle sniff without becoming overwhelmed. She will continue to benefit from consistent, calm exposure to the outside world - always at her pace and never forced.
She is crate-trained and loves her routine. Nutmeg would love to be a little lap dog and enjoys affection, but it’s important that gentle boundaries are in place. Over-babying can feed into her anxiety, so she does best with calm reassurance rather than constant fussing.
Nutmeg would be happy as an only dog in a calm home, or she may benefit from living with another older, gentle, small dog who can help model confidence. While she doesn’t play with toys or other dogs, she expresses her joy through excited little zoomies and is always up for a cuddle.
Once Nutmeg feels safe, she will reward you with endless kisses, beautiful cuddles, tummy rubs, and joyful zoomies when you come home. She also loves rolling around and rubbing her face into fluffy bed covers and pillows.
Nutmeg is a very easy little dog, deeply loving, and incredibly rewarding for the right home. She is looking for a calm, patient, and understanding family who will give her the time she needs to settle in and feel safe - and she will give you her whole heart in return.
Nutmeg is $350 to adopt and comes desexed, microchipped, C5 vaccinated, HW tested (negative) and given flea/tick/worm prevention.
