About Matcha šTibetan Spaniel (On Trial 3/2/26)
Matcha is a sensitive and playful, 7-year-old Tibetan Spaniel. He loves toys, walks, dogs and people. He greets his foster carer with great affection when she comes home. The Tibetan Spaniel is an uncommon breed with a proud history.
š About Matcha
⢠Heās very amusing and playful! He loves fetch and tug and tossing his toys around.
⢠Enjoys sitting next to you, on your lap, or at your feet.
⢠Loves going for walks and trips in the car.
⢠Great at the dog park. Heās gentle with small dogs and wants to play with the big dogs.
⢠Goes into the lake and wades chest deep.
⢠He hasnāt had much training but heāll come when called if you use a happy voice.
⢠Not a nuisance barker.
⢠Is 100% house trained and uses a doggie door.
⢠True to his breed, he prefers to sleep in bed with a person.
ā Grooming & Handling
⢠He has a soft and silky double-coat.
⢠He needs to be brushed daily and he enjoys it when itās done very gently.
⢠He is low shedding most of the year but sheds his undercoat twice a year.
⢠He weighs around 6-7kgs.
š Sensitive
Matcha needs someone experienced with dogs because doesnāt like to be handled roughly. He could snap if his needs arenāt respected. He loves to be stroked, scratched and brushed but only when he asks for it and very gently. If he doesnāt want to be touched then simply leave him alone.
Matcha doesnāt want people or dogs getting very close when he has toys or food. When he has these valuable items, donāt surprise him by trying to touch him or trying to take away his āpreciousā. Just walk around him. If you need to take what he has simply distract him with a toy first. Heās not hard to manage but his foster carer is working on this and our professional dog trainer is very happy to give you advice and support.
Because of these sensitivities, he should be an only dog and not live with children. If other dogs or children come to visit, pick up his toys and food before they arrive so he has nothing to defend. Heās currently living with two other dogs but theyāre very experienced and arenāt bothered by his silliness.
š” Ideal Home
⢠An only dog but with doggy friends at the dog park or at play dates.
⢠A one or two person household where he can get lots of attention.
⢠Someone who is home more often than not.
⢠A relaxed environment with a predictable routine.
⢠No resident children but respectful, dog-savvy, older children and visitors are ok.
⢠Experienced dog people who can read dog body language and who wonāt force interaction when he doesnāt want it and who will handle him gently.
š¾ About the Breed
Tibetan Spaniels are very affectionate, fun loving, amusing and intelligent. The Tibetan Spaniel, or āTibbieā, is an ancient breed originating over 2,000 years ago in the Himalayas. They were loyal companions and watchdogs for Buddhist monks. Known as "little lion dogs," they served as alarm dogs and also slept with the monks to keep them warm. Theyāre very people oriented dogs who like to be near you. They were highly prized and given as gifts but never sold. The Tibetan Spaniel isnāt a true spaniel. They were misnamed by the British. A Tibbie may have slightly bowed front legs and a slight under bite.
āļø Matcha is in foster care in Eleebana, NSW (Lake Macquarie). He is available for adoption to NSW and ACT. His adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
