About Mia
Meet Mia. This little sweetheart is a Mini Foxy with all the charm (and cheek) you’d expect from a terrier — wrapped up in a gentle, sensitive soul.
Mia has been given a clean bill of health. The vet estimates she’s closer to 1 year old, although her microchip says 2 — as with many foster dogs, we may never know for sure.
She will need to stay in care until she has finished being on heat and her desex will be booked and covered in her adoption fee (for her new family to take her to the appointment at one of our partner vets closest to her new home). We feel it would be good for Mia to get settled into her forever home rather than hold her in foster for 6-8 weeks to wait her desex.
Mia is very timid at first, but once she feels safe, her confidence grows quickly. She has started leash training to help build this, and she’s made huge progress — so much so that she now walks beautifully. She has a real soft spot for older people. She’s gentle by nature, especially considering her young age, and she’s learning how to “dog” by watching foster sister.
A home with another calm, confident dog would be incredibly beneficial for her.
Loud sounds and sudden moves are still a bit scary — the noise and movement can be overstimulating — but she’s learning to either ignore it or take herself off to her safe place (a bed in the hallway). Interestingly, she loves music and audiobooks, which help her settle beautifully.
Mia currently sleeps in a crate and settles easily, sleeping right through the night. She would absolutely love to share your bed one day, but while she’s still young, there’s a risk of a little overnight accident — so crate sleeping is working for her now. Otherwise, her toilet training is going well. The only accidents so far have been first thing in the morning if she can’t get her outside in time. Her foster sister is showing her the ropes, and she has nailed the doggie door, confidently using it on her own.
Mia is learning to sit on command and is very treat motivated, which makes training a joy. She currently weighs 4.7kg, with an ideal weight of around 5.1kg, so she’s enjoying extra soft food morning and night (and of course extra treats which is non-negotiable according to Mia).
We would recommend she is fed separately from other dogs as she inhales her soft food, immediately attempts to steal everyone else’s, then calmly returns to finish her kibble. A slow feeder may help, particularly in the mornings when she needs a little encouragement.
She loves soft toys — cat toys are the perfect size — adores her beds, and travels exceptionally well if there’s a bed in the car. She curls up and sleeps so quietly you sometimes need to check she’s still there.
She’s also mastered stairs, going up and down with ease and confidence. At the dog park (visited at a quiet time), she was initially terrified, tail tucked tight — but within an hour she was actively engaging and playing, particularly enjoying the company of an older Golden Retriever.
Things to know • Recall is… aspirational Typical terrier — off-leash only in enclosed areas • She’s an excited tinkler, so calm, low-key introductions are important • Not a fan of baths • She can jump — keep chairs tucked in unless you want a surprise table guest In summary Mia is an absolute delight. Gentle, learning fast, and blossoming every day. She will make a wonderful companion dog — or an adventure dog for someone happy to keep building her confidence and skills. She’s ready for her next chapter
