About Squirt
Squirts requires the following in her new home:
- Please read her profile and medical notes fully, before you inquire about her.
- A home with another small playful desex dog, not senior or puppy.
- Someone home often.
- More training to meet dogs and cats with manners.
- Any children in the home are over 12 years old.
- Any changes in diet are done slowly and transitioned with her previous food.
- regular professional grooming every 4 - 6 weeks.
Squirt is a very special girl, PLEASE read her full profile and her medical notes. We will only consider inquiries that acknowledge they have read her medical notes and are able to provide her with any medical treatment she may need for the rest of her life.
Despite everything she has been through, Squirt is an active and happy girl. She would benefit from having a male desexed doggy friend that is playful (not puppy or senior) and small-medium sized who is good with small dogs. She loves playing with her rattle rabbit toy, doing zoomies around the house, and her FOOD!! Besides that, she’s happy to cuddle up with you on the couch and fall asleep.
Squirt LOVES people. She has been going to work with her carer every day. She's always getting to meet new people. Everyone she meets is taken back by how small yet excited she is every time they see her.
She travels very well in the car, we drive to and from work 4-5 days a week and when going for walks. She is more than happy to go out for a walk and walks well on lead, being a smaller breed of dog she should be limit any daily walks to 20-30mins as a max.
Squirt is a quick learner and her love of food only helps when she gets a treat for learning new things. She knows how to sit and walks well on leash, she knows where to go for her meals (crate).
Squirt is about 90% toilet trained, she has the occasional accidents inside, usually when the dog door is closed, she likes it propped open. She enjoys having day naps on her bed in the living room where she can see what is happening, at night she happily sleeps in her crate.
She currently lives with 2 dogs, and has met the foster carers extended family and their dogs and cats, she gets along with all but can get excited when meeting dogs and cats and needs to learn some boundaries. Although Squirt is good with children, if her new home has children they need to be older than 12.
Squirt has only been left for short periods of time and when her carer has returned she was waiting at the door with the other dogs wagging her tail. She would be best with her people home often.
Squirt will be best on a good quality dog food, if it’s dry food she does best with it soaked in water. She seems to have a sensitive stomach and any diet changes will need to be done very slowly and over an extended period of time.
Squirt has had a bacterial infection around her back end which she did needed major surgery on to correct and debride the dead tissue and she now no longer has a normal sphincter, it is the end part of her colon. While healing we were a little worried she may end up incontinent, however she has proven us wrong every time and goes when she needs to. Any bacterial infection that was there to begin with has been treated with antibiotics and is no longer an issue. She may experience bouts of diarrhoea and constipation which may need medical intervention.

Medical notes
At approximately 5 weeks of age, Squirt was surrendered to the vet and was found to have complete and extensive skin breakdown around the tail and perianal area. The cause is unknown.
At this stage, Squirt's prognosis was guarded. She required either complete separation and Intensive care
or humane euthanasia. The breeder was unable to provide the level of care required and as a result we and the veterinary team stepped in to over take Squirt's care and to give her a chance, given how bright and happy she was. Despite this, her prognosis remained guarded.
Squirt required Intensive 24/7 care and underwent one surgery to assist with healing the affected area. Recovery was a long process; but with round-the-clock care, the wound eventually healed over time. Due to the extensive and deep nature of the original injury, it is suspected that Squirt is missing part of the external portion of her anus, which was likely lost as a result of the original infection.
To date, Squirt has been assessed multiple times by the vets as well as a specialist
Veterinarian throughout her recovery. We have been pleased with her progress, recovery, and treatment, and they do not foresee her requiring any related surgeries or major issues in the future.
Ongoing suspected considerations Include:
* Squirt may be prone to episodes of diarrhea or constipation. This Is expected to be wel managed with an appropriate diet to maintain optimal stool consistency. She appears to possibly have a sensitive stomach but does not require medical intervention at this time only dietary management. She does not require any prescription diets. If adopters choose to change her diet, a period of trial and error may be required to find a suitable option:
She may occasionally have an odour due to the partial absence of the anus. This is currenty well controlled with bathing or gently wiping of the area as needed using baby wipes:
We have noticed that Squirt does occasionally lick the area;
however, this has not been problematic and is simply noted as an observed behaviour:
