Compass – Navigating his way into your heart!

Meet Compass, a sweet, scruffy Kelpie x Staghound mix with a heart of gold. This bright spark has spent several months in foster care completing treatment for Meningitis. We are thrilled to report he is now fit, healthy, and officially ready to find his forever home!

Compass is an exceptionally well-behaved young gentleman who has already mastered the art of being a Good Boy. He is fully toilet and crate trained, waits politely at doorways, and is an absolute dream to walk on a lead. Compass is a smart and responsive learner (very food motivated!), already understanding commands such as "sit", "down”, “leave it” and is demonstrating excellent recall in quiet areas. He loves other dogs and will pull to meet them on walks, but a gentle reminder on the lead and a handful of treats always wins his heart. Just watch for him picking up “treasures” off the ground – this cheeky fella will keep you on your toes if you’re not watching what he puts in his mouth!

While he can be a little shy when meeting new people, Compass blossoms into a truly affectionate companion once he feels secure. He is a social butterfly with other dogs and would love a resident playful sibling to engage in games of "chasey" or wrestling.

Compass is excellent with children of all ages and will happily coexist with a confident, dog-savvy cat (but may need to be reminded they don’t like to be chased). With proper introduction and supervision, they could certainly become the best of friends.

Surprisingly, even though he’s Kelpie x Staghound, Compass is a relatively chill dog once he has had his daily walk (sniffing and weeing on trees is his favourite thing to do) – He’s happy to follow you about the house and snooze as you work or watch TV. He’d love a home where his family is around more often than not, as he can vocalise his feelings when left out of the fun! Luckily, he is a wonderful café dog, and it would be easy to include him in all your adventures. Although, he does get a little car sick on longer journeys.

He's still a young dog, so ongoing training and enrichment will help him grow into a well-adjusted adult dog. He'd thrive in a home with a family/person who can provide him with a daily walk, play time and mental stimulation.

What Compass is Looking For:
• An active family/person who are home more often than not and will include him in their adventures
• A furry playmate to burn off energy with (preferred, but not essential).
• A secure backyard for zoomies and playtime.
• Someone committed to continuing his training and providing both physical and mental stimulation

If you've got a comfy couch, a stash of toys needing defluffing, and maybe even a playful pup already in residence, Compass might just be the missing piece to your paw-some family!

Medical
Compass has made a truly remarkable recovery from Meningitis and is now in the final home stretch of his treatment. He is currently tapering off his Prednisolone (taking it only twice a week) and will need one final vet check-up in February to be officially cleared. Most importantly, this past condition won't hold him back - he is expected to live a full, active, and healthy life just like any other dog.

This quirky boy also coughs when he drinks water and, although this has been cleared by the vet, it will need to be monitored.

All pre-existing conditions are covered by Starting Over Dog Rescue (subject to approval and use of their approved vets).
