About Sussy
This is Sussy, she is young standard green female Indian Ringneck (IRN) Parrot. Sussy is a fantastic flyer, and needs the space to do so (even with a mild clip). She requires patience and an experienced parrot owner - would suit an aviary or indoor setting. LLRS is located in South East Victoria 🇦🇺
Indian Ringneck Parrots can make wonderful companions for the right people. They’re intelligent, curious, and beautiful, but with those pros come a few cons to consider.
While we don’t usually take in parrots larger than budgies, we’re one of the few registered rescues in Victoria trained and equipped to raise and wean parrots.
Please read carefully before applying as Indian Ringneck Parrots are not easy birds to own and maintain.
Facts about Indian Ringneck Parrots:
- Highly intelligent with the ability to mimic speech and respond well to training.
- Enjoys time with owners and playing independently with toys/foraging.
- High pitched flock calling throughout the day, especially at dawn and dusk (may not be suitable for apartments or shared homes).
- Nippy Phase (a.k.a. bluffing): Young birds often go through a biting and screaming stage which can last a few months to a year depending on the bird.
- Requires a balanced diet and high levels of enrichment to prevent obesity, behavioural issues (e.g., plucking, screaming) and hormonal issues.
- They can be aggressive and territorial with their belongings, flockmates and favourite humans.
Top 5 reasons why Indian Ringneck Parrots are surrendered to rescues:
1. Noise levels (e.g., screaming, normal flock calling)
2. Biting and aggression (especially around 1-4 years old)
3. Plucking
4. Outlived their owners (age span 20-30 years)
5. Destructive behaviours (especially when not given appropriate toys)
Why is the adoption fee higher than the budgies?
This bub has undergone more veterinary testing than our budgies and also comes microchipped, which increases the overall vet costs. An untested, unsexed and handled Indian Ringneck at a pet shop typically starts at around $200-$300, whereas this bird is not only tested and sexed, but also weaned onto a balanced diet and microchipped.

Having owned Indian Ringnecks myself, I would say they are one of my favourite parrots due to their independency and intelligence - and they're so pretty!

Rescue – Rehabilitation – Rehome
Our adoption process begins with an email conversation, including a series of questions designed to help us learn more about you and your home environment. This helps us ensure the best possible match between you and one of our birds.
Once we have identified a suitable bird, a four-week foster period will begin. This trial allows you and the bird to adjust and determine if it’s the right fit. If things don’t work out, you may either trial another bird or choose to have your adoption fee refunded.
If the bird settles in well and you decide to become their forever home—congratulations!

Adoption Requirements
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of our birds, the following conditions must be met:
- Indoor Cages:
Must have bar spacing of 15mm or less (powder-coated preferred, rust-free). The minimum width for two birds is 70cm.
- Outdoor Aviaries:
Must be at least 1500mm wide with predator-proof mesh, a safety/double door, and a snake/rat-proof base (e.g., concrete with bolts).
- Diet:
Birds must be provided with a diet of fresh vegetables and seeds. Pellets or crumbles are optional but preferred for added nutritional value.
- Out-of-Cage Time:
Birds must be given regular time outside of their cage for enrichment and exercise.
- Breeding:
Breeding is strictly prohibited.
- An adoption and foster contract must be signed during the adoption appointment.
- Hazards:
All hazardous materials (e.g., Teflon, toxic plants, fumes, rope toys, unsafe metals) must be avoided to the best of your ability.
