About Tommy Allbright
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/adopt/
Tommy Allbright has lots of love to give, and also loves receiving affection from his people. He is active but also knows how to chill, once his people also sit down to relax - although he will want to be close to them, dozing on the couch with them or close by. He also is a calm traveler in the car and sleeps through the night in his bed on the floor near his people.
Tommy is a quick and eager learner and responds well to consistent commands and repetition of routine - where he sleeps, where he is allowed to settle, sitting for his food, not jumping on people, etc. His future human will need to be consistent with his training to ensure he knows what is expected of him in his new home and with other animals.
Tommy is house trained and is very efficient at using the doggy door to go outside, even mastering it by himself within 1-2 days of being at his foster home. Some initial marking can be expected inside as he adjusts to his forever home.
Whilst playful and also able to chill, Tommy does bark and jump, if he is on lead for a walk and spots another dog on lead. His adoptive people will need to continue to work on calming him in these situations with consistent training / reinforcement - fortunately Tommy does respond to firm guidance and in just 2 weeks with his foster family, he has already improved with his obedience and responsiveness.
Tommy has interacted and played well with his two doggy foster brothers, although can be possessive of his people. However, with firm guidance, this abates. He stays at home without his people for up to 2 hours currently with the company of his foster brothers, but is still adapting to being left alone - his adoptive people would need to slowly work on this.
Tommy would be best suited to a home where his people can be with him the majority of the time and could settle with another dog of his size for company. He is untested with children.
Medical Notes: Tommy, like many cavalier crosses, has a heart murmur. He has had an echo and it has been suggested that he have another in a couple of years.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions. Breed: Cavoodle. Weight: 5.2kg. Tommy is going to the cardiologist to have his heart murmur checked out.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
