Teddy ( Theodore)

Teddy is a 3yo, 27kg Australian Cattle Dog mix. Teddy is both very gentle, and yet very strong and bouncy. Like most Cattle Dogs, he should mature more in the next couple of years. Currently he is a very sweet, very active ‘puppy’ personality.
Teddy loves to do the right thing, he just needs some positive reinforcement to help him learn the rules. He is learning to not chew items he shouldn’t, to not jump up and to not pull on the lead on walks. He has shown a tendency to be afraid of the vacuum cleaner and will bite at it, and he will also try to climb on your lap when you are sitting. We are currently working on these issues. Teddy is a very soft and slightly anxious character so encouragement and rewarding good behaviour is working well with him.
We have listed below some of Teddys fabulous character traits that will see him succeed and thrive in most homes.

1. Teddy loves all humans. He loves affection. He is also very good being left alone. He will whine for a few seconds then settle down.
2. Teddy rarely barks unless something has surprised him and he is unsure what it is.
3. Teddy is very gentle by nature. He loves to be patted and told what a good and handsome boy he is.
4. He is gentle with toys and around food. He does not guard his food bowl, and he is very gentle taking treats.
5. Teddy loves most foods, and is not a fussy eater.
6. Teddy loves other dogs. He has had no physical interaction off leash as yet. All on leash greetings have been a little excited – but soft and loose happy wagging.
7. Teddy loves the car and loves car rides.
8. Teddy is house trained and will take himself outside to toilet.
9. Teddy is good on leash. He can pull a little when he is excited (working on that!) but he ignores pushbikes, wants to say hello to every single human and dog he passes – although shortening his leash and asking him to ‘come along’ and his attention immediately returns to the handler.
10. Teddy has shown some interest in cats. Though if they hiss at him he walks away. He is more interested in the cat food than the cats. Although he may need some further structure around cat interaction.
11. Teddy loves a walk, and loves a game with a toy. Due to his curious nature and active mind, he would benefit from daily exercise.
12. Teddy loves to run, but he also loves to flop on a bed. Whatever you are doing – whatever energy you show he will mirror.
13. Teddy will jump on beds, but is easily encouraged to sleep on the floor.
14. Teddy is curious with livestock, but not reactive. He has no horse/cow sense though and is best kept away from any large animals for his own wellbeing. He does come out off leash into paddocks with me but is easily recalled when he is near livestock.
15. Teddy has very good recall.
Teddy is a happy, confident boy who can at times be a little anxious. He will thrive in a calm environment and make a fabulous companion pet. We can also see him being an easy dog to take to obedience, agility or other training which we are sure he would enjoy.
