About Yahtzee
Yahtzee is the definition of delightful. Calm, affectionate, curious, and playful, she is a gentle soul wrapped in a clumsy little body. Yahtzee firmly believes she is much smaller than she actually is, which sometimes leads to her knocking things over as she continues to learn her spatial awareness.
She has significant hearing impairment, which can make getting her attention a little tricky—but once she’s engaged, she is incredibly eager to please. Yahtzee sleeps happily through the night in her crate and doesn’t rush you first thing in the morning to be let out. For a puppy her size, she is exceptionally gentle and laid back.
Her days consist of short bursts of playful, uncoordinated energy followed by long, contented snoozes. She is perfectly happy to nap for hours after a little fun and enrichment.
Yahtzee is a beautiful little clown. She needs several meters to build up to full speed, and unfortunately her foster sister is far more agile—sharp turns almost always result in Yahtzee stacking it in spectacular fashion.
One day, while trying to get onto the lounge, she couldn’t coordinate her back legs. Instead of trying again, she simply flopped onto the floor and went straight to sleep.
Because she can’t hear herself, Yahtzee makes the funniest noises when playing or trying to get attention. Other dogs often stare at her in total confusion. Drinking water is a full-body experience for Yahtzee—she steps directly into the bowl and dunks her entire snout in. She also fell deeply in love with the clothes airer and regularly chose it as her preferred sleeping spot over her bed.
Ideal Home:
Yahtzee would thrive in a variety of homes. She would make a wonderful family pet, a loyal companion for a solo person, a sibling to another furry friend, or even a laid-back studio dog. Because of her hearing impairment and size, her forever home will need to be committed to learning how to train and communicate with a dog who cannot rely on sound.
Her family will need patience, as learning and cementing new commands can take a little longer. In return, Yahtzee offers deep connection and devotion. She thrives when she is truly included—joining in on outings, family time, and even holidays. Being close to her people helps her feel secure, settled, and confident.
Energy Level:
Yahtzee has a mild energy level. She benefits from both mental enrichment and physical activity, but doesn’t require excessive exercise. As a young puppy, she can occasionally find mischief, especially since her hearing makes it harder to interrupt cheeky behaviours like garden digging—you’ll often need a gentle touch to get her attention.
A 20-minute walk paired with a 10-minute training or enrichment session leaves her ready for a long, peaceful nap. While her bursts of energy are short, her size can make them look dramatic. Her family will need patience, or plenty of space for the occasional zoomie session.
Suitability With Children:
While Yahtzee hasn’t had much exposure to children, she would likely do very well in a family with older children who can understand and respect her size and needs.
Suitability With Dogs & Cats:
Yahtzee adores her foster sister and loves playful “rumbles.” She often uses the resident dog as a guide when navigating new environments. She is still learning appropriate social play, as she cannot hear another dog’s audible corrections, but she settles beautifully among other dogs.
She has not yet been tested with cats, but this will be done soon.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
