Principal Flutie

Principal Flutie is an exceptionally vocal, opinionated senior who always has something to say and is not shy about sharing his thoughts with the people around him. From greeting you as you enter the room to narrating his day, wandering conversations down the hallway, and offering commentary at mealtimes, Flutie thrives on verbal interaction and clearly enjoys being heard. His chatter is a core part of who he is and will be a constant presence in the home, making him a wonderful match for someone who enjoys an interactive, communicative companion. While he can be affectionate, it is always on his own terms-he appreciates a good head scratch and quiet companionship but does not enjoy being picked up and is not a cuddly lap cat. Food is one of Flutie's greatest passions, and he would benefit from slow feeders and enrichment toys to slow his enthusiastic eating and engage his mind. He has previously lived with other cats but was clear that he prefers his personal space, responding with hissing and growling when other cats approached, so he would do best as the only cat in the home. Flutie needs a thoughtful transition into his new environment and must start in a small launch room, as large open spaces can be overwhelming for him initially. His ideal home will be well set up with scratch posts, cat trees, hides like boxes or igloos, and access to shelves or furniture to provide safe spaces both high and low. He is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will allow him time to settle and recognize that his confidence-and his full, chatty personality-will grow as he feels secure. A home with teens or older children who can read feline body language and respect his boundaries would suit him well. He may do okay with a calm, social dog if introductions are slow and monitored, but Principal Flutie is not cat social and would much prefer to be the sole, very talkative ruler of his domain.
