About Coconut
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Coconut – Adoption fee $900 (includes all vet work)
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with her 3 siblings.
BREED: Chihuahua x
BREED TRAITS: Chihuahuas love to be with their people, definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, and can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and wilful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities.
************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, friendly, laid back, quiet, confident, sweet and playful. Coconut has a cheeky little personality.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Coconut loves to be around her carers enjoying attention. She likes playing chasey and hide and seek with her carers. She also loves to run around the garden with her siblings and is accepting of the resident dogs. She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Coconut has a great personality. She has a funny, cheeky nature and will have her new family smiling all day especially with her waggy tail and fluffy coat.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy, she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions. She is quite frightened of chickens and hides behind her carers legs but would accept in time. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Coconut will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway and she is doing well but expect accidents while she’s settling into her new home and routine! Coconut would be happy to be an only dog or to live with another playful small dog – she is super cute and would love to be the centre of the home. She’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs - this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner.
ESSENTIALS for Coconut:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption – Chihuahua’s are companion dogs and do not like to be left alone for long periods
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore in safety
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence – essential
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
Coconut will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium energy as an adult dog.
Coconut has not been in care with children – she could live with dog savvy children over 10 years of age who will interact with her gently, not treat her like a toy, and know when to give her space.
If Coconut sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
