Meet THEO (aka Teddy)

German Shepherd x Border Collie (Shollie)

Theo, affectionately known as Teddy, is a Shollie — a German Shepherd x Border Collie — with a unique twist. His German Shepherd parent was a Panda German Shepherd, a rare variation that carries a gene resulting in approximately 35% white coat in an otherwise traditionally coloured breed.

Friendly, social and highly intelligent, Theo presents strongly toward the German Shepherd side in both personality and appearance. He is people-focused, thrives on structure and engagement, and responds very well to calm, consistent guidance. He already knows his basic commands and is eager to keep learning.

Theo is dog-friendly and has lived successfully in multi-dog households, including his current foster home, where he shows excellent manners around other dogs and at mealtimes. While he is comfortable with familiar dogs, he can feel overwhelmed in larger groups and may bark when unsure. This is improving with training, and he responds well to redirection.

He is also cat-friendly, having grown up with a cat, and tends to be respectful — often choosing a toy over interaction.

Theo may look like a big, confident dog, but he is actually a soft-natured, sensitive boy who prefers calm over chaos. He is not suited to dog parks or busy, high-energy environments. Instead, he enjoys the company of one or two familiar canine companions and the security of his trusted humans.

He is very much a “marshmallow inside” — more follower than leader — and will often seek reassurance from his person when unsure. Given time and consistency, he forms deep, loyal bonds.

Important Considerations

✔ Best suited to a home with teenagers rather than young children due to his size and puppy exuberance
✔ Cannot live with birds or poultry of any kind
✔ Will require secure fencing, as he is athletic and capable of jumping
✔ Walks well on a K9 bridle but will benefit from ongoing lead training
✔ Needs a couple of weeks to settle and adjust to a new environment

Theo’s Ideal Home

✔ Experienced owner, ideally familiar with German Shepherds or similar breeds
✔ Calm, structured household
✔ Commitment to ongoing training and mental stimulation
✔ One or two compatible dog companions
✔ A home where he can be included indoors as part of the family

Theo is house-trained, crate-trained, and accustomed to indoor living. He enjoys being close to his people and will thrive in a home where he feels safe, understood, and included.
