About Amara
Meet Amara — an intelligent girl with a big heart 💕
Amara is a sweet-natured, gentle-tempered mixed-breed girl — probably with some Staffy and wire-haired Terrier in her, judging by her coat. But really, being the accommodating girl she is, she’s happy to be whatever breed you’d like her to be.
She has a constantly wagging tail, bright happy eyes, and a gorgeous, cheeky smile that she shamelessly uses to charm everyone she meets. Her playful energy is infectious, and she wants nothing more than to be loved and included.
She loves being outdoors, exploring her surroundings, and soaking up the sights and sounds of the world. Amara enjoys games of tug-of-war and energetic chases around the yard.
She walks well on a leash, though she’s still learning her strength, and has excellent recall — she’ll come running when called and then sit beautifully. Any mention of a car trip has her begging to ride shotgun.
After a good run and play, Amara is happy to be the ultimate cuddle bug, enthusiastically invading your personal space. She loves tummy rubs and soaks up any attention. At night, she sleeps peacefully right through — preferably on your bed.
Still young, Amara can sometimes jump up when she’s excited, so will benefit from a ongoing guidance and training to help her become her best self.
She gets along beautifully with other dogs and is currently living happily with a cranky 17-year-old cat, whom she's charmed, like everyone else.
Amara has lovely manners and will only bark if she thinks you really need to know something. She adores people, loves everyone she meets, and is truly one of the best cuddlers around.
Amara came into care from the pound on 31 October 2025. Someone else’s loss is truly your gain — she’s a bright, affectionate girl who will fill her new home with joy. She weighs 22.5 kg, making her a lovely medium-sized girl.
Her ideal home will have:
1. Secure fencing to keep her safe
2. Indoor privileges (she loves being close to her people)
3. Plenty of human company
Amara would make a wonderful family dog or devoted companion — she has so much love to give and is ready to share it.

Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) If the “meet and greet" is successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
(4) For successful interstate applicants, different arrangements may apply and will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Cats:
If you are interested in one of our cats or kittens, please click on the green "Enquire about ...", button, tell us a bit about yourself and the home you can offer the cat, and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
