About Marlow
Meet Mr Marlow, a Big-Hearted, Energetic Pup Ready for the Right Home
Marlow is a charming, exuberant young man currently in our care, and we believe he is an Istrian Coarse-Haired Hound. With his affectionate nature and beautiful temperament, he has a way of winning hearts instantlly but, we won't sugar coat it, he isn't without his challenges.
Marlow is still very much a puppy and currently in his mouthing and teething phase, predominantly because he did not receive any core training as a young pup. Because of this, he is looking for an absolutely dedicated, experienced, and energetic owner who understands young working breeds and can provide the structure, patience, and consistent guidance he needs to thrive. He must be in a home where leadership is strong, calm, confident, and kind.
Due to his playful exuberance and ongoing training needs, we recommend a home without children or, dog-savvy teenagers (no little ones).
Marlow has come a long way in care and has already mastered the basics—he can sit, wait, lie down, shake, and go to his bed. Earlier this year, he also completed a 5-day board and train program with George Tran, dog behaviourist, which has helped set strong foundations for his training journey (George will also provide lifetime support for Marlow). Like any young dog, he still needs continued training and consistency to stay focused and build reliability plus dedication to solve his mouthing. The good news? He is very food-driven and eager to learn, making training both rewarding and enjoyable, this boy needs 'a job'.
He is fully toilet trained with routine and does well when given regular opportunities outside—especially first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bed. He is also crate trained and loves access to his always open crate for solo quiet time and a safe space.
As a hound, Marlow has an active mind and body. He needs daily exercise and mental stimulation to be his best self - two long walks a day are a must, enrichment activities like puzzle toys and scent games, and plenty of interaction with his humans. He also loves to play—fetch, tug-of-war, and even swimming are among his favourites.
Marlow enjoys the company of other dogs, but his play style is boisterous, so any canine companion would need to be bullet proof, calm, tolerant, and patient. He can live with cats, provided they are dog-savvy and confident. He has also shown to be very comfortable around horses.
At his core, Marlow is an affectionate, people-loving dog who thrives on connection. He will happily curl up on the couch with you or snuggle in close at bedtime providing his energetic needs have been met. His future home must be one where he is treated as a true member of the family and included in everyday life.
Marlow’s loyalty, intelligence, and zest for life make him an incredible companion—but he is not a “set and forget” dog. He must have an owner who will invest time, energy, and love into continuing his training and meeting his needs.
If you’re an experienced, active home ready to commit to raising a young hound—who still mouths, particularly for attention—and shape him into an exceptional adult dog, Marlow is ready to give you his whole heart.
Medical notes
Marlow is currently on calming medication however it is not expected to be a long term requirement - to date the medication is helping him immensely and enabling him to relax and better focus on learning
