About City
City is a young girl who’s still figuring out where she fits in the world, and she’s doing an amazing job of it. Best suited to experienced owners who understand dogs that can be a little nervous and low on confidence, City has already made huge progress in our care and continues to grow every day.
She’s gentle, sensitive and on the shy/timid side, especially in new situations, but don’t let that fool you — City is also friendly, happy and, being young, can be delightfully excitable once she feels comfortable. She’s social with both people and other dogs, and her love of canine friends has really helped her come out of her shell.
City would thrive in a calm and quiet home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. She may bark at people she doesn’t know at first, but she warms up quickly and shows just how affectionate she really is. She enjoys playtime, but if given the choice, she’ll happily choose cuddles instead.
Once City trusts you, you’ll be rewarded with endless affection and plenty of sweet kisses. With patience, understanding and a gentle approach, City will continue to blossom into a wonderful little soul.
Ideal Home: City is fine to live in either a townhouse, standalone home or farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: City is open to meet kids aged 13 years & up - City has always been a little nervous around strangers and new environments - but she is able to form bonds quickly. We feel that older kids would understand her needs.
City is fine to live with people who work full-time hours, as she shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is able to spend time in the yard on her own, but would also like to be inside with her new family on occasion too.
Furry Friends: City is dog social and open to meet other dogs. In fact she does her best when around her puppy pals. City loves the company of other dogs and if we are being honest we feel that a dog friend help City with her lack of confidence. She's social, playful, eager to interact.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how City would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: City would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be beneficial so that she can continue to grow her confidence. City is mild mannered but may occasionally jump/climb on to you for pats and cuddles - she's also not afraid to plant a kiss on your cheek either!
City is still learning her name but she knows commands such as "sit".
She is food motivated, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would still be an excellent idea. She also takes treats from you gently.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: City has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep her healthy and content. City likes to play with rope toys, she also likes to go for walks, and play with her dog friends.
City walks well on lead with some pulling, being a nervous little girl she may try to flee when sh when she sees another dog she wants to meet - other than that she walks nicely. She is best walked with a collar and lead.
Staff Comments: City is a young, gentle girl who’s still learning, and we’ve been so proud of the progress she’s made. A calm and quiet home would suit her perfectly. City is friendly, happy and excitable once she feels comfy, and her love of other dogs has helped her come out of her shell beautifully. She’s social with people and dogs, may bark at unfamiliar faces initially but warms up quickly, and once she does she’s incredibly affectionate.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
