Meet Willow,
Willow is a gorgeous, big-hearted girl who’s looking for an experienced home - especially one that understands the charms of a classic “velcro” dog. She doesn’t have separation anxiety, but she does love being close to her people and can feel a little stressed when they leave. The good news? She’s 1000% manageable and doesn’t need anything special beyond patience, reassurance, and an owner who gets that she bonds deeply.
We believe Willow shared a very strong attachment with her previous owner, who sadly never came back for her. Since then, she’s formed lovely bonds with the staff she spends the most time with, showing just how capable she is of loving again. She truly loves with her whole heart.
Willow would thrive in a calm and quiet home, but she’d also be a great match for active people or families who enjoy getting out and about and then coming home to relax together. She’s gentle, sensitive, agreeable, friendly, and happy, with a sweet nature that makes her very easy to adore. She’s also a smart girl who’s excited to meet you and keen to be your friend. Social with both people and other dogs, Willow is affectionate and sometimes a little anxious — but that just comes from caring deeply.
With an understanding owner by her side, Willow will shine and show you just how special she really is.
Ideal Home: Willow is best to live in either a standalone home or farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Willow is open to meet kids of any age - but may do better with older kids who understand her needs.
Willow is best to live with people who work part-time hours, or with someone who is home more often than not. She is able to spend time in the yard on her own, but would prefer to be inside with her new family or have someone home with her.
Furry Friends: Willow is dog selective - she has made friends with some of the dogs at the ACF and that is because these dogs respect her boundaries. Willow enjoys the company of other dogs but likes other dogs who allow her to be here and not force her into play. She'll play a little bit but likes the freedom to do her own things, like explore, sniff and walk around. A dog who allows her to be herself would be ideal.
Willow would not be suitable to live with cats/pocket pets.
Training & Development: Willow would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Although she is mild mannered, she still may jump on you for a cuddle and pat.
Willow knows her name and she knows commands such as sit and down.
She is food motivated, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would still be an excellent idea. She also takes treats from you gently. She can be a little picky with dry dog treats, preferring high value treats.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Willow has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep her healthy and content. Willow is not interested in playing with toys, she prefers to go for walks, or simply likes being near you and hanging out with you.
Willow walks well on lead with some pulling when she sees another dog she wants to meet - other than that she walks nicely. She is best walked with a collar and lead.
Staff Comments: Willow is such a sweet dog that loves affection, but she can be a little stressed in new and unfamiliar situations but she just wants to be loved. She's a lovely dog who has a big heart and would be a great addition into any family.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
