About Toast
Toast's journey hasn't been an easy one. She arrived at the shelter as a stray with her babies, shut down and terrified of the world. She did the bravest thing she could - she kept her babies safe until they were old enough to head off to their forever homes.
Once her kittens were adopted, Toast needed something just as important: time, space, and patience. She headed into foster care to help rebuild her confidence, and with the right environment, her true personality slowly began to shine.
In foster, Toast showed us who she really is. She loves having a quiet place to retreat to, but if you give her time, she'll come out to seek affection - especially enjoying gentle pats and very enthusiastic bum scratches! She adores cat hammocks perched up high where she can watch the world go by. A feather teaser wand is her absolute favourite, and she'll happily engage in play sessions once she feels safe.
Toast loves other cats. She would thrive in a home with another friendly, playful feline companion, or as a solo cat with someone who can provide plenty of enrichment and interactive play.
She does need an adopter who understands that Toast has boundaries. After lots of pats or a big play session, she can become a little overstimulated and may need time to herself. Someone who can read her signals and respect when she needs space will be rewarded with a truly special bond.
Toast's story is a reminder that sometimes, simply giving a cat the chance to decompress can be the difference between fear and trust and ultimately, the difference in saving a life. Now that she's back in the shelter, we would hate to see her lose the confidence she worked so hard to build.
Toast is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Toast - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
