About Dega
We have some very handsome Alpaca geldings available for adoption - five of which are currently in foster care in the North of the state and may be viewed by appointment and adopted direct from foster.
These funky lads are a bonded group, so it would ideally be lovely to see them stay together to head off to their new home. If this is not possible there must be other alpacas to go to or be homed in at least pairs.
Alpacas are South American camelids with gentle personalities and fascinating social lives. They naturally prefer to live in groups, forming social hierarchies that help keep the herd balanced and content. For this reason, they should not be kept alone and is ideally suited to a same-sex group environment. Alpacas adapt well to living with sheep - they can be a guardian in such flocks.
When it comes to care, they are refreshingly tidy - alpacas typically use a communal dung pile in their paddock, making pasture management easier. Their diet consists of good-quality hay, alpaca pellets, and grazing. Like all alpacas, they will require regular shearing to remove fleece annually and hoof trimming, dental checks, drenching and vaccinations (inclusive of vitamin and mineral supplementation).
If you're looking for a gentle, social, and low-impact livestock companion with plenty of charm, these handsome alpacas could be the perfect addition to your property. They are ready to settle into a caring home where he can enjoy good company, good food, and plenty of space to graze.
