About Max - 8 Year Old Golden Retriever
Meet Max, the best boy in the world!
Max is a stunning 8-year-old Golden Retriever old enough to have grown out of the sillies, but young enough to still enjoy a daily walk and a bit of adventure.
He’s a big boy with the gentlest nature. Max’s favourite thing in the world is people. He loves men, women, adults, and children with no discrimination, and he’ll happily lean his whole body against you the moment he decides you’re his new best friend. Even though he adores human company, he also copes well when left at home. While his family is out, he’ll simply find a quiet spot, curl up, and snooze.
On lead, Max can be strong for the first minute of his walk, but once he settles, he walks beautifully and calmly.
Max is wonderfully easy in day-to-day life. He isn’t a barker or a whiner just a quiet, steady boy who thrives on predictability, gentle attention, and plenty of pats. He loves soft toys and will carry them around the yard, often “reorganising” them in his own special way.
Although Max previously lived on a large country property, he has adjusted beautifully to suburban life with a small yard. He had never used steps before, and within a couple of days he was mastering multiple steps like a pro. He’s a fast learner. He also adores being groomed and is an absolute dream for the groomer. Max loves being brushed, enjoys all the pampering, and is a big water-lover. One of his favourite routines is lying in a clam shell (a shallow kiddie pool) each day, especially when it’s warm.
We could easily see Max thriving in a retirement home or a large, busy family where there’s always someone around. He is a huge people-lover and happiest when he can be part of the action.
Max is a confident, steady boy. Storms don’t faze him, and even a barking dog next door won’t bother him. He simply ignores it. He is crate trained and has been sleeping comfortably in his crate at night in his foster home.
Max would thrive as an only dog, where he can soak up all the attention and love, but he could also do well with a very calm, older dog who isn’t bothered by sharing space. Max needs a confident, understanding family and a chilled, easygoing dog who won’t challenge him. That will help set him up for success.
He enjoys getting out and about, and while he prefers to keep his home life peaceful, he’s happy to do polite greetings with other dogs on walks… even if he’s usually more excited to say hello to the human at the other end of the lead
