About Pooh Bear
My name is Pooh Bear, and yes I do poo in the 100 acre woods but not in my kennel. I'm house trained, fluffy and gentle.
In April I was hit by a car and I spent many months at the specialist vets getting better. I will always walk with a limp but this doesn't stop me from enjoying a daily walk and a bit of a run. I'm not on any medication and my vets gave me the all clear to be rehomed. My vets kindly performed a DNA test on me and I'm 50% Siberian Husky, 37% German Shepherd and 13% Alaskan Malamute - Piglet said that's pretty cool!
I like belly rubs, tennis balls, my Pooh Bear soft toy and my squeaky lobster. When it's hot I love to have ice blocks put in my water and I love my naps after my walks. In summer my favourite treat is frozen peanut butter. Oh and that air conditioning in houses - well that is gold!
I really love to follow my hooman around wherever they go and if they would like to put me on a lead I just follow beside them. I don't pull on the lead. I don't lick faces nor do I jump. I was told I just plod around like Eeyore, but he has a sad face and I have a happy face because I know that one day someone will open their heart and love me for the big fluffy cuddle bear I am.
By the way, I don't like the dark or the ocean, or being left alone for long periods. I love the company of other dogs - in foster care I have been around German Shepherds of all ages as well as kelpies. When people first meet me I don't really like pats or kisses on my head - I would much rather gentle pats along my back.
And now a few words from my foster carer. We always recommend to continue training when you take your dog home. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long and is a great way for you to bond with your new dog.
Pooh Bear is not suitable around cats or pocket pets.
Pooh Bear is currently available for adoption in NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria. If you're interested in making him a cherished member of your family, you'll need to drive with your loved ones to meet him. Should he, for any reason, not be the perfect fit for your family, you would be responsible for either bringing him back to Sydney or helping us rehome him from your home.
To apply for Pooh Bear, please either click on the link "Enquire about Pooh Bear" and we will send you some information about adopting a German Shepherd, or go to our website and complete the application form.

We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
