About Mogwai
Meet Mogwai đ§Ą
1.5 years | Neutered male | Work in progress (the good kind)
Mogwai is one of those cats who makes you stop and think, âYou are going to be someoneâs absolute favourite cat⊠you just havenât met them yet.â
He came to us as part of a large hoarding situation, one of over twenty cats who hadnât had much chance to learn that humans can be safe, predictable, and kind. Understandably, Mogwai arrived cautious and unsure â and while heâs come a long way, heâs still figuring things out.
Right now, Mogwai prefers to avoid handling if he can help it. If you walk straight towards him, heâll likely choose distance over bravery. But hereâs the thing: this is not a shut-down, disengaged cat. Far from it.
Mogwai is playful, curious, and deeply invested in games. He will actively seek you out to play, including his signature move: flicking toys out of his enclosure with his paws or nose so a human will come over⊠and flick them back. (This will then be repeated many times, because Mogwai is somehow both a cat and a toddler on a high chair.)
He also has a tiny little, slightly embarrassing squeaky meow that youâd expect to come from a kitten that he uses to announce himself, especially when he wants attention on his terms.
At times, Mogwai has allowed pats and even enjoyed lap time â proof that the smoochy ginger cat energy is in there, quietly waiting for the right human to trust. With time, consistency, and an experienced, cat-savvy home, we genuinely believe he has the potential to grow into a very affectionate and funny little companion.
The important stuff (please read):
Mogwai is a work in progress and needs patient, experienced, cat-savvy humans
He will need time to settle and learn that handling is safe again
He must go to a home with another friendly cat â he thrives around other cats and takes confidence from them
He has lived happily with one or two cats, as well as in a large colony of boys
Mogwai wonât perform for you in a meet-and-greet. He wonât rush up for pats or show off his best side straight away. But for the right person â someone who understands that trust is earned, not demanded â he has so much to give.
If youâre looking for a project cat, a playful companion, and the quiet joy of watching a nervous little soul truly come into his own⊠Mogwai might just be waiting for you.
