Maui

Maui is the definition of a big, happy heart on four legs. At 7+ years old, he’s playful, affectionate, wonderfully people-focused, and still very much a water-loving goofball. He adores being included in whatever his humans are doing—walks, car rides, pottering around the yard, or simply being close enough to keep you company.

He’s grown up in busy family homes and spent time with children of all ages. Maui reads the room beautifully and has an intuitive, gentle nature, especially around older people and kids. His excitement can bubble over when meeting someone new—he may jump up or offer a cheeky little nip in greeting—but he settles quickly with calm, confident handling. Once he knows the rules, he sticks to them.

Maui is social with other dogs and enjoys playful, friendly company. He can be a bit full-on for grumpy seniors but thrives with dogs who enjoy a wrestle or run. With cats, he’s more timid than anything—happy to keep his distance and avoid conflict. He’s never shown food aggression, travels well, is fully toilet trained, and has solid house manners. Indoors he’s relaxed, respectful, and loyal as they come.

True to his “water baby” reputation, Maui loves splashing in the ocean—especially when the waves are rolling. Flat water? Not interesting. Waves? Instant zoomies. His favourite game is tug o’ war, and he’ll gleefully challenge you to a match any day.

Health-wise, Maui is in good shape. He’s had an ACL repair and a couple of minor lumps removed, all fully healed with no ongoing concerns. He enjoys his daily walks, about 2 km being his ideal distance, and he’s happiest with a predictable routine where he gets regular human companionship. He’s never been an escape artist and respects fencing well.

Maui will suit a home where he can be part of the daily rhythm—somewhere with people around more often than not, older kids or teens who can confidently interact with a big, affectionate dog, and humans who appreciate a loyal shadow at their side. He would thrive as an only dog or with a friendly canine sibling who enjoys play.
