About Spike

Spike is almost 2 years old and is a striking short coat German Shepherd, he found himself abandoned in a rural pound due to no fault of his own. Spike came into GSRV last year and spent time in foster care before being place in a loving home; we thought we had found Spike forever, but unfortunately circumstances have changed and Spike is once again looking for a special someone.
Spike LOVES people and is an over-sized affectionate love-bug that makes friends with everyone. Spike loves pats, especially bum scratches and will lean into your leg for more, he insists on kisses whether you want them or not and is the cuddliest boy that just wants to share all his love.
Spike is a typical German Shadow that just wants to be wherever his humans are, he will follow you around the house and involve himself in whatever activity his human is doing. Spike panics when his humans leave the house and will try his hardest to get to them; we currently have Spike on medication to help him stay calm when he is alone. We have seen great results with this, he improves drastically and is able to learn that his humans will come home and he isn't being abandoned again.
We are looking for a home with someone home all the time, or who can take Spike with them, he loves the car and is a passenger prince who won’t comment on your parking skills, only give you the stink-eye.
Spike loves toys and can often be found throwing a toy to himself or sitting quietly licking his soft toys to death. They do have a habit of suddenly exploding at times, but Spike swears it isn’t him. Spike enjoys using his brain and loves toys that make him think such as enrichment puzzles and anything that is a challenge to dispense food, this helps to keep him amused when his people are out of the house.
Spike is a typical teenager that still presents with puppy behaviours at times such as jumping up and mouthing, he is a quick learner and has responded well when given clear boundaries and rules within the home. Spike is best suited to a home with children over 8.
Spike is looking for an active home with someone that is dedicated to his ongoing training, he is at the age where he will test your patience and be a little cheeky at times, ensuring he has an outlet and can engage with his handler by using his brain will help to keep everyone happy. Spike loves going on hikes and adventures, he has even been on a camping trip and was well behaved – this boy is ready to do it all!
Spike can be conflicted with other dogs, at first, he is reactive and will bark and lunge at them, however when given time to calm down and introduced slowly, he has shown to be quite social and enjoys saying hello to others. Spike loves his humans so much that he doesn't want to share them when at home, so whilst the aim is for Spike to gain enough confidence so that he can say hello to others out on walks, he will need to be the only dog in his forever home.
Spike has not been tested with cats or other small animals.
This spunky, goofy boy will steal your heart and then your spot on the couch; he loves big and is the most loyal boy, he has so much potential and will be the most incredible companion with lots of love, patience and guidance.
Poor Spike has already had his heartbroken, he is looking for his 1 true love and his happy ending, could it be with you?

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
