About Jax

4.5 year old Jax came into GSRV care 8 months ago, he was terrified of the world, people and other dogs, he had lived a completely isolated life.
Jax was placed into foster care and has been working hard to build his confidence and exposure to the world around him… we can’t quite believe the difference and just how far this boy has come. It is a new year, and seemingly a new Jax, he is now more than ready to find his forever home.
Jax isn’t a big shepherd, but he does have a huge heart, and once he trusts you and forms that special bond, he is as loyal as they come and a complete snuggle bug seeking out pats and affection. Jax adores his foster carer and would do anything to please her, they’ve built a strong bond through training and lots of play.
In foster care, Jax has learned to trust humans, he can still be a little shy meeting new people and may hide behind his chosen person, but he is quickly won over with a game of fetch or tug and then is instantly your best friend and ultimate playmate!
Jax is looking for a home with humans who can give him the space to unravel and come out of his shell, building that bond through play and training. He is suited to a home with adults only that will take the time to ensure Jax is comfortable. A quieter home without too many visitors would suit Jax best, especially in the beginning whilst he adjusts to his new environment.
Jax is very clever and has his basic commands down pat, he loves to learn and does well with frequent training sessions to keep his mind busy. Jax is motivated by treats, toys and praise but also responds well to correction, he just wants to please his human. Jax would love to continue training in his new home, giving him boundaries and feedback helps him to feel confident in the home and the outside world.
Jax is an energetic boy that loves playing, he resembles a much younger dog and is looking for an active family that will give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Jax would love to go on hikes and adventures and be provided with enrichment to keep his brain working. Jax has been crate trained and has learned to have an off switch meaning you get the best of both worlds, a playful, goofy friend but also a snuggly, calm companion that is equally as happy cuddling up on the couch at night.
Before coming into care, Jax had never socialised with other dogs; he has been working on this in his foster home with great success and is learning to play and read other’s cues. Jax is a work in progress and is doing well but can still become overwhelmed at times. For now, Jax would be best suited as the only dog in his new home, we would love to see him continue his socialisation journey meeting dog friends in a controlled setting so that he can keep learning and progressing whilst having his own space at home.
Jax has not been tested with cats at home, he is very curious about them out on walks.
Jax is looking for an understanding and patient owner that will help him to continue his transformation and journey from a scared and unsocialised dog, to a playful, confident companion. Jax’s foster carer has already done so much work with him and he has come so far, we need someone to take over where they have left off and give this boy all the love, playtime and boosts of confidence he needs.
Jax has had an extremely hard start, but now his future is looking incredibly bright, we know in the right hands, this boy will continue to improve and smash every milestone! If you are an experienced dog owner that will be committed to providing training, ongoing socialisation, and exposure for Jax then please complete an adoption application via our website or email rescue@gsrv.com.au if you are on our waiting list and wish to adopt Jax.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
