š« NON NEGOTIABLES FOR FLOSSY š«
Please read before applying:
Flossy is a very special girl who has been through a lot and she has some very clear needs for her future home. To respect her wellbeing and to save everyone time, please do not apply unless you meet the requirements below.
Flossy needs:
⢠A female primary owner, as she is scared of men and bonds deeply with women
⢠A quiet and calm home with no children and no busy or loud environments
⢠An experienced dog savvy owner who has worked with scared or shut down dogs before, or someone who is genuinely committed to learning and going at her pace
⢠A local home (Coffs harbour or surrounding areas) so we can help support her gentle transition into her new life
⢠A home away from busy cities/suburbs where sheāll be comfortable to go on quiet walks (someone living in a suburb whoās experienced with dogs like this may be considered)
⢠Secure fencing and a peaceful, spacious yard where she can slowly build confidence
š¾ Personality:
Flossy came into care incredibly scared & shut down and is looking for an experienced home to help her thrive. Flossy is looking for a female owner to be her very best friend. Once she trusts you she LOVES you! She is wary of new people but once she gets to know you her affectionate nature shines. She gets bum wiggles when you get home and zooms around the yard so happy to see you. She loves pats and belly/neck scratches. Flossy has likely been used for breeding her entire life and is only now learning how to be a dog. She is scared of men so would do best in a home without a man or a home that includes a VERY patient/quiet man who can give her the space & time she needs to settle in (this will likely take months of ignoring her). She isn't a very high energy dog and is happy with some walks around the yard, chews on her toys, a little bit of training with her meals. She is currently in care with an older female dog and they get along fine now, flossy has started trying to play with her. If there is another dog in the house she'd be best with a confident dog to teach her how to dog.
She does not bark & is fine when left alone in the yard as long as she has a cosy den like a kennel or crate to snooze in. She has not been around children while in care and is scared of sudden noises/movements so we are looking for a home for her without children.
š Training:
Flossy is completely house trained and has never had an accident while in care. She was initially very scared to come into the house or walk up the stairs but is now comfortable with the stairs and happy inside in her crate (the door is always open but this is her safe space where she chooses to be - especially if there is a storm or new people in the house). She comes when called around the yard once she gets to know you - especially with the help of a squeaky toy. She was initially very scared of being on lead, she is slowly wearing it around the yard now for short, supervised periods with lots of positive reinforcement. She went for her first short walk recently which was quite scary.
š Perfect Home:
Flossy is not appropriate for a first time dog owner. She is looking for a dog-savvy owner with experience who can go at her pace & help her build her confidence - someone who has experience training scared/shutdown dogs or someone with time and patience who is willing to learn. We are looking for a local home for her where she doesn't have to travel far so we can help to settle her into her new home & offer guidance. She is looking for a home with a female owner to be her new best friend as she LOVES her female foster carer (the male is a bit scary but she has started to sniff his feet if he ignores her). She needs a quiet home away from busy cities/suburbs, where she can comfortably learn to go on walks in a peaceful environment. She is not a jumper but will need secure fencing while she's settling into her new home. She is a great gardening buddy! We want nothing more than for Flossy's next home to be her permanent residence where she can settle in and never have to worry about moving house again.
Love & licks,
Flossy š¾ā¤ļø
