About Gary
Gary is a 2-year-old ragdoll-cross boy with the softest heart you'll ever meet. His early life was spent surviving on the streets, and while those tough months left him looking a little scruffy, they never managed to dim his gentle nature. Today, Gary is safe, warm, and finally learning what it means to be loved.
When Gary first arrived in care, he was extremely unwell from his time outside. Despite everything he'd been through, he remained calm, patient, and unbelievably affectionate. With proper medical care, good food, and quiet days spent snoozing in soft blankets, he has come almost all the way back to a clean bill of health. Every day he grows stronger .. and more confident. Gary tested positive for FIV, which simply means he needs to be an indoor-only cat for his own safety. Indoors, he can enjoy a long, happy, healthy life. He can also share a home safely with another FIV-positive cat if you already have one looking for a friend.
Gary may be shy when he first meets new people, but once he feels safe, he leans into affection with soft head-butts and slow blinks. He's a sweetheart who appreciates the quiet moments, chin scratches, snoozes in sunny windows, gentle voices, and steady routines.
There is nothing quite as rewarding as seeing a cat who has known hardship begin to relax into home life. Every milestone feels special: the first time Gary curls up next to you, the first confident purr, the first moment he realises he's finally safe. He truly blossoms a little more each day, and whoever adopts him will get to witness that transformation firsthand.
Gary is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Gary - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
