About Red
Hi, my name is Red! I’m a 5-year-old Kelpie girl with a gentle nature and a calm, affectionate personality. I’m sweet, relaxed, and I absolutely adore people — especially if head scratches are involved.
Red is a lovely, easy-going companion who enjoys being close to her humans. She’s good with kids, friendly with other dogs, and has beautiful manners both at home and out on walks. On lead, she’s a dream — walking calmly at a relaxed pace, though she does have the occasional burst of playful zoomies that are guaranteed to make you smile.
Red is crate trained and house trained, and settles well into a quiet routine. She gets along very well with other dogs and would happily live with a friendly canine companion. She also takes daily medication for a well-managed condition, which doesn’t stop her from enjoying her day-to-day life.
Red’s ideal home is a quiet one — she’s not suited to busy city living. She would love a home where someone is around often, or where she can have the companionship of another dog. She’s low-maintenance, affectionate, and happiest when life is calm and predictable.
If you’re looking for a gentle, people-loving Kelpie who will fit easily into your life, Red might be the girl for you.
Red is located in VIC and is available for adoption in VIC or NSW only.
Medical notes
Red has been diagnosed with epilepsy, which is managed well with medication, and doesn’t stop her enjoying day-to-day life. It appears to have been triggered by hormone fluctuations (after having pups with her old owner, and her in-season spey after coming into care with us). Her seizures have been managed with medication which has stabilised and her bloods have been rechecked and clear. She will need to remain on phenobarbitone and keppra for a further 6 months, to then reassess her demeanour and stability on meds, and re-check her bloods. It should be noted that Red can and will most likely continue to have seizures throughout her life, but the medication will keep them as infrequent and mild as possible.
