Althira – A sensitive soul seeking a family to call her own.
Althira is a stunning, gentle-natured cattle dog cross who is still learning that the world is a safe and steady place. While she has the intelligence and loyalty typical of her breed mix, she carries herself with a quiet sensitivity that sets her apart.
She was originally adopted as a young puppy but unfortunately found herself back in care three months later when her previous family realised they were not quite equipped for the ongoing commitment of raising a young dog. Far from being discouraged, she is simply waiting for a stable environment where her sweet, soft temperament can truly shine and her confidence can continue to grow.
She is an incredibly eager-to-please companion who already walks beautifully on a lead, making her a delight for those who enjoy peaceful strolls. She is a social dog who thrives on companionship and is looking for a home with a confident mentor dog to show her the ropes. Having a steady canine playmate will give her a reliable partner to help her navigate new experiences with bravery.
Her interactions with children have been very positive; however, like any enthusiastic puppy, she does tend to jump up to say hello. For this reason, she would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children who understand how to interact with a young dog still learning her manners.
While Althira hasn’t been tested with cats in the home, she is young enough to learn. With proper introduction and supervision, they could certainly become the best of friends.
The primary focus for her new family will be providing the structure and guidance she needs to overcome her current anxieties. Althira is currently navigating some mild separation anxiety, which is a reflection of the changes she has experienced at such a formative age.
She expresses her need for reassurance by being vocal when left alone (crying, not barking) and attempting to get to her humans, but this is a temporary hurdle that will naturally settle as she learns that her new family will always return. While she is not destructive, her stress can lead to accidents in her crate despite being otherwise toilet trained.
Improving her impulse control through consistent, positive training will be key to helping her feel more secure. With a patient owner willing to put in the work now, this sensitive girl will undoubtedly blossom into a loyal and confident adult dog.
Althira is a one-of-a-kind pup who will thrive with the right balance of structure and affection. To ensure she settles in successfully and grows into a confident adult, her perfect home should include:
Stability & Patience: A family that understands her recent life changes and can provide a consistent routine to help her feel secure.
A Mentor Dog: A steady, socialised resident dog is a must. Althira looks to other dogs for cues on how to react, and having a playful big sibling will fast-track her confidence.
Active Guidance: Owners who enjoy teaching “puppy manners” (like four-on-the-floor greetings) and helping her build impulse control. Her new family should be committed to continuing her training and providing both physical and mental stimulation.
Dog-Savvy Kids: Children who are comfortable with occasional puppy jumps and can participate in her training.
Althira is ready to give her whole heart to a family who can offer her the bright, stable future she deserves. If you think your family can provide her with the perfect home, apply now and share with us how you plan to help this lovely girl blossom into the dog she is meant to be.
