About Duncan
Introducing Duncan!
Duncan is a Boxer x born approx 20th August 2024.
Duncan was brought in to us as an unmicrochipped stray & no one came looking for him. When Duncan came into us he was incredibly underweight, where we could see every rib, spine & hip bone. While he has put on weight since being with us, he has clearly had a rough start to his young life. He will need a loving, patient and commited owner who will help heal the emotional wounds from his previous life.
Since being with us, Duncan has been an incredibly sweet boy. He's very friendly with his human companions & would love to be a lap dog if you let him. We have noticed that Duncan has a bit of a nervous energy about him and if/when he's stressed or anxious his jaw chatters, similar to a Belgian Malinois. When this happens it can be difficult to refocus his attention to you but with the right treats, encouragement & a little patience you're able to bring his focus back again.
Duncan has a childlike innocence to him where he wants to experience life, love & excitement.. he just needs to know that he's going to be safe to do so.
Duncan was quite excited/anxious when meeting other dogs. He very excitedly wanted to go over to say hello, he even dropped to the ground to army crawl over to them at their level. When they got face to face he started doing his nervous jaw chatter which scared the other dogs we were testing with. When Duncan came in to us, he was brought in with a female Kelpie x, so we got her out to see how they'd go together & he was completely different. He was calm, super wiggly, they were kissing each others noses etc. He was even non-reactive when she had a little snap at him. We believe he has the potential to live with another dog, but he may be more comfortable being the spoilt only "child" at home while he continues his socialisation. In saying that, if you have a friendly dog, we would need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
When trying to introduce Duncan to our facility cat, he sniffed the kitty litter tray then put on the brakes & avoided the area completely. We believe Duncan would be best suited to a home without feline companions.
Duncan seemed unfazed by pocket pets and no aggression was seen. When meeting through a gate he was easy to distract, however he may have a different reaction if they're face to face. We feel if he is to live with pocket pets that they be caged and not free roaming.
Duncan has shown no signs of separation anxiety or food aggression since being at the facility.
Duncan's adoption fee is $550 and includes his desexing, lifetime registration, vaccination and he is up to date with flea & worm treatment.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
