Meet Ruby,
Ruby is a sweet, bouncy girl who’s ready to start fresh and learn all about life! Ruby is suitable for first-time owners or those with experience, and she’s looking for someone who’s happy to guide her through ongoing training. She hasn’t had much (if any) training in her previous home, so she’ll absolutely thrive with someone who can help her put her best foot forward and grow into the fantastic dog she’s meant to be.
Ruby is wonderfully adaptable and would settle into any household environment with ease. She’d fit in beautifully with active people or families, though her exercise needs aren’t demanding — she just loves being included. With her puppy-like behaviours, she brings a fun, light energy wherever she goes. She’s gentle, friendly, happy, outgoing, and always ready to greet the world with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Playful, excitable, and social with both people and dogs, Ruby is the kind of pup who makes every moment a little brighter. She’s affectionate and engaging, even if her attention span is on the shorter side — it just adds to her charm. If you’re after a lovable dog who’s eager to learn, explore, and share life’s little adventures, Ruby is ready to meet you!
Ideal Home: Ruby is suitable to live in an property type, yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high and secure.
Family: Ruby is open to meet kids of all ages.
She is fine to live with people who work full-time hours and she shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is able to spend time in the yard on her own as she is content with her own company but on occasion would like to be inside with her family, too.
Furry Friends: Ruby is open to meet other dogs. Although she is social she is very puppy-like in her approach and lacks manners. She is keen to be friends but ongoing training aimed at socialisation and manners would be very beneficial for her.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Ruby would be living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Ruby would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be good for Ruby so that she can learn some manners when interacting with other dogs. Ruby will jump on you, we are working on this with her - she is just very excited when meeting new people.
With additional training, Ruby could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Ruby is still learning her name, and she is still learning commands.
Ruby is food motivated - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. She is gentle when taking treats from you, though she can be a little fussy with the types of treats offered to her.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Ruby has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep her happy and healthy. Ruby she interest in playing with soft toys, she also likes going for walks and personal play with her handlers.
Ruby walks well on lead with some pulling - especially when something catches her eye - she is manageable though. She is fine to be walked on either any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Ruby is very puppy-like in her behaviour, she is able to settle down eventually once all her energy is out of her system. Ruby will need basic training as she doesn't really know any commands - she is a very lovely, friendly dog who adores meeting new people and other dogs. She will need a committed owner who will be dedicated to her training.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
