Meet Golden,
Golden is a bright, bubbly young girl who’s ready to take on the world with you! Suitable for first-time owners or those with a bit more experience, she’s the kind of dog who brings fun and energy wherever she goes. Golden is doing wonderfully with her training so far, and because she’s young, smart and very eager to learn, she’ll thrive with someone committed to keeping her training on track. Giving her that guidance will help her put her best foot forward and grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be.
Golden is wonderfully adaptable and would settle into just about any household environment. She’s friendly, happy, outgoing and full of personality. Confident and curious, she loves exploring new things, meeting new people and making dog friends. She’s playful, excited about life and always ready for a good time. And when she slows down? She’s affectionate, engaging and loves being part of whatever you’re doing.
If you’re looking for a fun, vibrant young dog who’s ready to learn and keen to be part of a loving home, Golden is waiting to meet you!
Ideal Home: Golden is best suited to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard and high secure fencing.
Family: Golden is open to meet kids of any age.
She is fine to live with people who work part-time hours and she shows no signs of separation anxiety. She likes to be engaged and around people but she is able to spend time in the yard on her own as she is content with her own company.
Furry Friends: At first Golden wasn't very comfortable meeting other dogs. She seemed fearful of them. Over time, she has developed a liking for other dogs. She is able to be around them and likes to initiate play - when the other dog doesn't play with her she will vocalise to get their attention. She is open to meet other dogs, she appears dog friendly too, but as she is still young group classes with other dogs and puppy pre-school would benefit her greatly so that she can learn manners.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Golden would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Golden would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. It would be a wise move to invest in a crate & start crate training. This type of training is not only a highly valuable skill to have but is a great skill for any dog to learn and know. Golden should be enrolled into puppy training classes as soon as she is adopted. These classes & training will set her up for life and will allow her to learn social skills & etiquette, as well as define her manners. These classes & training will also teach her how to appropriately interact with other dogs as well as other animals & people. These training classes will also assist her new owner, as they can both learn new skills together.
With additional training, Golden could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Golden is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as sit and drop.
Golden is food motivated - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as she is very responsive to them. She is gentle when taking treats from you, too. She is very focused when it comes to treats.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Golden has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep her happy and healthy. Golden shows some interest playing with toys, She also enjoys going for walks, being included in training sessions, learning new things, meeting new dogs and keeping her brain engaged (treat puzzles, toys etc).
Golden walks well on lead with some pulling and zig zagging - she is manageable though - and further leash training would be beneficial. She is fine to be walked on either a lead and collar or harness.
Staff Comments: Golden is still young and would do well in a home who will continue her training. She is very smart already and is learning a lot quickly. She is still a puppy, so can be a bit silly at times, but one on one, once the excitement is over, she is engaged, switched on and eager to learn.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
