Kimpton is a sweet, loving young girl who tries very hard to please. With her big brown eyes and gentle nature, she is guaranteed to steal your heart. She loves nothing more than to snuggle by your side or tag along while you go about your daily routine. She adores her people, but can be quite timid and submissive at first, so she needs a little time to warm up and get to know you. However, offer her a treat and she’ll be your friend for life!

Kimpton will be best suited to a home where there are people around most of the time and would quickly become distressed if she were left alone all day every day. Having said that, she can be left for several hours without a problem and will just be super excited to see you once you get home. For a young dog she is quite calm and chilled, happily spending time napping on her bed or snoozing in the sunshine – she’s not as boisterous and demanding as your typical working breed dog, and won’t chew or destroy anything in your home.

While she’s been in foster care, Kimpton’s confidence has been growing every day. She is really coming out of her shell letting her personality shine through. She is still that gentle and affectionate pup but has a cheeky, playful side too and is starting to figure out what toys are all about. She is very smart and picks up new things quickly, and being so food motivated means she’s very easy to train. She is completely toilet trained, is learning to walk on the lead without pulling (although she does weave about a bit) and knows her basic commands. However, she will benefit from ongoing training from an experienced owner who will take time to understand and respond to
her needs.

Although she often puts on a brave face, she is actually a very sensitive soul who needs someone calm and patient to teach her that the world really isn’t such a scary place, and who can offer her guidance and build her confidence. It’s best to keep her world small and predictable at first while she builds that trust and confidence to avoid her becoming overwhelmed. And because she is so sensitive she only needs the mildest correction if she does something a bit cheeky - she will instantly respond, wagging her tail and looking up at you apologetically.

At present she is quite growly and stressed when she sees another dog, but this is driven by fear not aggression, so a consistent, structured approach to helping her overcome this will be needed. But puppy play dates and visits to the dog park are definitely out of the question unless her confidence grows to a point where she can tolerate other dogs up close.

Because she is so gentle, Kimpton may do well in a family home with older kids, but they would have to be sensitive to her needs as she would be frightened by shouting and sudden loud noises. Alternatively, she would be quite happy in an adult-only home.
