About Malakai
Hi! I’m Malakai and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MALAKAI
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/cn7R62qC2vNETELx5
NOTE: You are unable to meet Malakai until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Malakai in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• To be allowed inside with my family and not left outside 24/7 with no interaction.
• I am a puppy, so I WILL bite, chew things, toilet inside, bark & cry and be destructive. It is up to you to train these behaviours out of me. Please don’t apply for me if you are not willing to put in the effort to train me to grow up to be a well behaved and social dog.
• A doggie companion is a MUST in my new home, I am very under socialised, and I thrive when I’m with a confident dog to follow their lead and learn from them.
• I will be shy at first, so I need a family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• I like both friendly male and female dogs
• I appeared scared of cats when meeting them at the shelter however once my confidence around them grows I might be more inquisitive. If going to a home with a cat they must be dog savvy, and we must be introduced slowly.
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation, love and attention
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• I need a nice quiet home with no young children (under 12 years) As I get easily spooked, I need time and space so I can get used to my new home and learn that I'm safe and loved. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
My best features:
• Highly food motivated
• Gentle & placid
• I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• LOVE other friendly dogs
• I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches
• Well mannered
• Love to snooze on the couch
Where I need to improve / Training required:
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet
• I'm learning to walk on the lead at the shelter and am getting much better. I'm still a bit slow and fearful but with lots of practice (and another doggie to keep me going!) I should soon look forward to a daily stroll around the neighbourhood
• I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue with my socialization
• I love my food so using them as a positive reward should make my training easier.
• I am extremely timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. I MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so I can see it isn't a scary place and to allow my confidence to grow
