About Isabelle
Meet Isabelle, an affectionate and active dog who delights everyone she meets with her joyful demeanor. Isabelle is great with all people and loves interacting with other dogs, making her the perfect companion for a home with a canine sibling. Her gentle and loving nature ensures that she quickly becomes a cherished member of any family she joins.
Isabelle loves to get out and about. She enjoys lively walks in the park, and her enthusiasm for exploring delights everyone she encounters along the way. Her ideal day features bonding time with a fun doggy friend, and plenty of cuddles.
While Isabelle is not suited to homes with cats, her human and dog social skills are sensitive and affectionate, making her a joy to be around. She thrives in an environment where she can share her love and get oodles of affection in return.
Isabelle has diabetes and needs a family experienced with this. For those who are familiar with her condition, the reward is a loving and perpetual friend who will fill your home with warmth and happiness. With her smoochy kisses and spirited personality, Isabelle is eager to bring endless joy to a home that welcomes her with open arms and has the experience needed to meet her medical needs.
Medical notes
Isabelle was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus before her time in shelter. Diabetes is caused by deficiency of insulin, which is an important hormone made by cells in the pancreas. The signs of diabetes in dogs are typically weight loss despite a good appetite, and excessive thirst and urination.
Treatment of diabetes in dogs usually requires daily administration of insulin injections and appropriate nutrition, and must be specifically tailored for each individual. The cost of her injections is $100 for 160 days supply (subject to price changes).
The goal is to control the signs of diabetes (weight loss despite a good appetite; excessive thirst and urination) and to avoid low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) due to insulin over-dose. Isabelle has been started on insulin and a special diet, to which they have responded quite well to.
Isabelle will require to be on a special diet (Hills i/d low fat) EXCLUSIVELY. The cost of this is $6.5 per day.
Ongoing monitoring long term of her diabetes will be a mixture of blood and urine tests, one of which is known as the continuous glucose monitoring system known as the "Freestyle Libre". Isabelle is due for a repeat blood glucose curve in 6 months time and the cost of this is $200. You will need to source the monitor yourself (we will provide instructions on how to do this when it is due).
