About Sonny
Introducing Sonny!
Sonny is a Dachshund x Staghound born 29th April 2025.
Sweet Sonny was surrendered to the facility for rehoming. His owners only recently took him on from a neighbour, however the existing dogs in the home weren't coping with the new arrival, so for everyone's safety they decided it would be best to find him a new home.
Although they didn't have him for long they were able to give us a little bit of info about what he's like in a home environment. His surrender profile states he is not house trained, has no food aggression, he travels well in the car, has no separation anxiety, he's friendly with children, adult strangers, dogs & cats.
Since being at the facility Sonny has been a very excitable pup. He's very affectionate & will kiss you all day if you let him. He is an active boy who would love a family who are wanting a dog to keep up with their active lifestyles.
Sonny tested well with other dogs, however in typical Dachshund style he is very vocal when he's excited, which can receive a negative reaction when meeting other dogs. When he's allowed to get close to them, he gives a gentle lick on the nose and an excited tail wag. We feel Sonny could be suitable to live with other dogs, or be the only spoilt "child" at home. If you have another friendly dog at home, we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Sonny seemed unfazed by our facility cat, however she was hiding at the time so he may need to be re-tested.
Sonny appeared to have no interest in our resident rooster, however given his breed we feel he would be best suited to a home with either no pocket pets, or to a home with caged only pocket pets.
Sonny has shown no signs of food aggression or separation anxiety since being at the facility.
Sonny's adoption fee is $650 includes his desexing & lifetime registration.
Sonny is also regularly treated for flea and worms and is up to date with his vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
