About Gus
Introducing Gus!
Gus is Mastiff x born approx 1st May 2025. That's right, this gorgeous big boy is still a baby! He already weighs over 24kg with (most likely) much more to go.
Gus was brought into the facility as an unmicrochipped stray & sadly no one came looking for him. When he arrived he was a very timid boy who was covered in dirt. He was so shy we had to carry him into the facility.
Since being at the facility Gus has quickly become one of our favourites. He's so incredibly affectionate and sweet that it spikes our cute aggression.. the beauty of his size is when the cute aggression hits, he loves being squeezed in a giant hug just as much as we love squeezing him. When you sit down next to him he will scootch himself over to you & if he doesn't sit in your lap, he sits so as much of his body is touching you as possible. He loves rolling around and getting belly rubs and he is truly just the sweetest boy ever.
While his timidness has definitely improved, he does still get scared when going to new environments & he immediately drops to the ground. If you crouch down & give him some gentle words of encouragement, he will slowly army crawl over to you. He loves being told he's a good boy & is obsessed with food/treats, so that will come in handy as he continues his confidence building journey. One thing to be warned of is when he gets scared or overly excited he does wet himsel. When he does wet himself, he has very good aim & can shoot you from about a metre away. His first reaction when this happens is to cower even more, expecting to be punished. He will need a gentle & loving owner who will be patient & encouraging with this issue while he learns he is safe.
Gus tested very well with other dogs. He was incredibly playful with our confident dogs. When we tested him with Koa, our incredibly shut down boy, Gus dropped into an army crawl & gentle shimmied his way over to say hi. When Koa was still scared Gus rolled onto his side & back to show he was no threat. We believe Gus would be suitable to live with other dogs, or be the only spoilt "child" at home. If you have another friendly dog at home, we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Gus appeared to be completely unfazed by our resident cat even though she was hissing at him.. he was more interested in trying to get to her food. We feel that Gus could be suitable to live with cats if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.
Gus was playfully interested in our resident rooster, but he was very gentle with his sniffing and approached him in a slow army crawl. We believe Gus could be suitable to live with small animals if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.
Gus has shown no signs of food aggression or separation anxiety since being at the facility.
Gus' adoption fee is $650 includes his desexing & lifetime registration.
Gus is also regularly treated for flea and worms and has had his first vaccination.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
