About Carti
At just one year old, Cookie has already lived through more than any cat ever should. When she was barely more than a kitten herself, she was found on the streets - cold, hungry, and trying her best to protect her tiny babies through the cold Melbourne winter.
She was just a baby raising babies, doing everything she could to keep them safe. Her kittens have since grown strong and gone on to find loving homes, but for Cookie, the journey to safety took a little longer.
After being rescued, Cookie went into foster care where she learned, slowly, carefully - that not every sound meant danger and that gentle hands could bring comfort, not fear. Every day brought tiny victories: a soft purr, a brave step forward, a moment of trust. Those baby steps turned into something truly beautiful.
Cookie gives get gentle purrs and is slowing building that confidence to engage in positive behaviours with her foster carer - don't get us wrong, she still likes to hide but the baby steps are getting bigger every day.
Now, Cookie is ready to take the next big step, to find her forever person. Someone patient and kind, who will continue her journey with love and understanding. She's still learning what it means to be safe, but she's already shown she has the biggest heart.
Cookie has come so far from the frightened little mum she once was. All she needs now is someone who sees the same thing we do, a survivor, a sweetheart, and a cat who's finally ready to find her home.
Cookie is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Cookie - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
