Just like her namesake, Sue Ellen Mischke is strong, independent and a wonderful mix of sassy and sweet!
After spending the first year and a half of her life as a stray, Sue Ellen has been getting comfy leaning into affection and is embracing all of the most important parts of indoor life – like sitting in sunny windowsills, watching TV, zoomies around the house and learning important words like “dinner” and “treat.”
Sue Ellen has made wonderful progress in foster care – she, understandably, continues to be a bit skittish and is wary of unexpected movement when walking around the house or if someone is standing too close. But now, instead of disappearing for hours, she will make herself a a bit of space to quietly assess the situation before remerging and quickly settling back in again. She’s clever, adaptable, observant, and getting braver every day.
She has learnt that the words “gentle” and “kind” (or more accurately, having “Sue Ellen is gentle; Sue Ellen is kind” sung to her) means no nibbling and claws away if she gets a bit too enthusiastic during playtime. (…her foster carer can teach you the tune!)
Sue Ellen might take a bit of time to come around, but your patience and treats will be rewarded – especially if you join her in her favourite place – bed! Bed is Sue Ellen’s passion! It’s where this curious and quirky 💁♀️ gal seems to feel most safe and where her true personality shines. (a relatable queen)
She now sleeps on the bed every night (and often for a good chunk of the day tbh…), loves hiding and ‘catching’ her toys amongst the blankets and will often doze off with her head or paw on your hand. When she’s hanging out in bed, Sue Ellen will seek out ear and chin scratches, allow pats, let out gentle purrs and, in recent weeks has even allowed a couple of cuddles (on her terms!)
Sue Ellen is looking for a safe forever home with someone who will give her the time to open up on her terms and will continue to respect her boundaries while enjoying the affectionate, quirky, and increasingly snuggly companion she’s becoming. With the right person, her sweetness will only continue to grow.
‼️ Sue Ellen is still not comfortable with being a lap cat or being picked up but she loves hanging out nearby, providing quiet companionship and joining in on your routine. She is easy to read and a clear communicator - if she needs space, she’ll let you know with a small hiss, a tap of her paw or by moving herself away.
If you'd like to meet her, please submit an application (see below) – the more information you can provide about your household, lifestyle and history with cats, the better 🤗

Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!
Apply here for a cat or kitten: https://form.jotform.com/sugarandspicecatrescue/cat-adoption-questionnaire
If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
