About Finley
Although we don’t know what happened to Finley in his life before coming to the Village, we do know that it has left some invisible scars that he carries with him. Someone has been unkind to him in earlier life.
He tries so hard to be a good boy, and he really is a good boy, totally chilled out and relaxed at home, loves to help in the office (well has a snooze under the desk) but still unsure about the outside world.
When meeting new people, his foster family just let him be as he prefers to watch from a distance rather than engage with new people. Once people are known to him, he will warm up to them but sadly someone has made him untrusting.
He walks well on the lead but seems anxious when passing yards with dogs his size or bigger, especially if they bark which unsettles him.
His foster family are working on this and will ask him to sit, ignore and settle. Once he is quiet, they will continue walking so he is picking up on etiquette, and what is expected when outside of the home. He is making steady progress but does need someone committed to ongoing training. If you acknowledge a barking dog behind a fence with a simple “hello” he calms down and his whole body relaxes, it’s like he needs the reassurance that everything is ok and no one is going to hurt him.
Being outside his comfort zone of his home and yard can be overwhelming so we do have him on a natural calming medication to help him navigate the world. Finley isn’t a dog for taking to cafes and busy overstimulating places and is looking for a calm and quiet home.
We hope someone sees him for the special boy he is and will put in the time to make him feel at ease as you will be rewarded with a loyal partner for life.
Please get in touch if you feel that could be you!
Although crate trained, he may have a nibble on his bed if left too long. This boy enjoys spending time outside but enjoys spending evenings and sleeping inside with his family.
Finley has been a good boy when left alone. If he is left outside, we would suggest 6 ft fences to keep him safe, but he hasn’t tried to jump fences at his current foster home.
